Description

The Network Architect will own the design, implementation, and evolution of Fervo’s network infrastructure across IT and OT environments. This individual will play a critical role in enabling reliable, secure, and scalable systems to support Fervo’s geothermal operations—from construction through commercial operations. As a senior individual contributor, you’ll work cross-functionally to develop our long-term network roadmap while also guiding immediate architecture and configuration decisions in a fast-moving environment.

You’ll need to be fluent in enterprise and industrial networking, and comfortable navigating both strategic planning and hands-on execution. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys shaping systems in high-growth, technically complex settings—and who is excited to support Fervo’s mission to deliver 24/7 carbon-free energy.

Requirements

Responsibilities

  • Design and maintain a secure, resilient, and scalable network infrastructure that spans IT, OT, and cloud environments.
  • Develop and evolve long-range network architecture aligned with Fervo’s operations roadmap, including new site commissioning.
  • Define and implement security frameworks for network design in alignment with industry standards (e.g., NERC CIP, ISO 27001).
  • Oversee integration between corporate IT and plant networks, ensuring performance, reliability, and security across environments.
  • Lead or advise on network-related aspects of system implementations, upgrades, and cloud transitions.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders and managed service providers to ensure infrastructure quality and service-level accountability.
  • Maintain clear documentation of network topology, configurations, standards, and procedures.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and tools to continuously improve Fervo’s infrastructure and network resilience.
  • Act as a subject-matter expert and escalation point for complex network troubleshooting.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in network engineering or architecture, including secure design and implementation across hybrid environments (cloud, OT, on-prem).
  • Deep experience with routing and switching protocols (e.g., BGP, OSPF), SD-WAN, VPN, QoS, and multi-vendor environments (e.g., Cisco, Juniper, Fortinet).
  • Experience integrating and securing networks for industrial control systems or critical infrastructure.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud network architecture in Microsoft Azure or AWS.
  • Strong diagnostic, troubleshooting, and incident response capabilities.
  • Proven ability to work cross-functionally across technical and non-technical teams.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; capable of conveying technical concepts clearly to diverse audiences.
  • Self-motivated and capable of operating independently in a startup-like environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP), CCIE, or equivalent.
  • CISSP, Security+, or other cybersecurity certifications.
  • Experience in regulated infrastructure environments (e.g., power, oil & gas, utilities).
  • Familiarity with NIST, ISO 27001, or NERC CIP frameworks.
