This position will be fully remote and can be hired anywhere in the continental U.S.

As a Senior Security Generalist, you will serve as a cornerstone of our client's security team—bridging knowledge gaps across domains, providing guidance on best practices, and helping to shape security posture across a variety of platforms and initiatives. Your versatility will be key in evaluating risks, enhancing controls, and advising teams from engineering to operations on how to make security a core part of their process. You’ll help respond to incidents, guide secure architecture decisions, and drive strategic improvements across the client's cybersecurity program.

We are looking for a well-rounded, hands-on security professional with experience across multiple domains of cybersecurity. You’re someone who thrives in dynamic environments, loves problem-solving, and is comfortable juggling responsibilities across cloud security, threat detection, vulnerability management, compliance, secure development practices, and more. This is not a specialist role in one narrow domain. We’re looking for someone who can jump between conversations about IAM strategy, vulnerability management, zero trust architecture, insider threats, and audit prep without missing a beat.

How you'll make an impact

  • Serve as a cross-functional security resource for teams across the organization, including engineering, IT, compliance, and executive leadership.

  • Support and improve various security programs, such as vulnerability management, endpoint security, cloud security, and identity & access management.

  • Perform risk assessments and provide remediation guidance for systems, vendors, and internal processes.

  • Contribute to incident response planning and support investigations when security events occur.

  • Provide security consultation on project design and architecture reviews, including cloud (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and on-premises environments.

  • Monitor industry trends and threat intelligence to proactively identify potential risks or control gaps.

  • Lead or assist in audits and compliance efforts (e.g., SOC 2, ISO 27001, HIPAA, or others as applicable).

  • Develop documentation, runbooks, and security training content for internal teams.

What we're looking for

  • 5+ years of experience in cybersecurity roles with exposure to a wide array of disciplines.

  • Working knowledge of network security, cloud environments (AWS, Azure, or GCP), endpoint protection, SIEM, vulnerability scanners, and IAM platforms.

  • Familiarity with security frameworks such as NIST, CIS Controls, MITRE ATT&CK, or ISO 27001.

  • Demonstrated experience in conducting risk assessments, incident response, or architectural reviews.

  • Strong communication skills—able to translate complex topics into actionable guidance for technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Ability to work independently and adapt to changing priorities.

  • Certifications such as CISSP, Security+, GSEC, or equivalent experience are a plus.

Preferred experience:

  • Experience working in an MSSP, startup, or other fast-paced, multi-client environments.

  • Knowledge of scripting or automation tools (Python, PowerShell, Bash) to support security operations.

  • Exposure to compliance regimes such as PCI-DSS, HIPAA, or FedRAMP.

  • Experience with EDR, SOAR platforms, or threat hunting tools.

What you can expect from Optiv

  • A company committed to championing Diversity, Equality, and Inclusion through our Employee Resource Groups.
  • Work/life balance
  • Professional training resources
  • Creative problem-solving and the ability to tackle unique, complex projects
  • Volunteer Opportunities. “Optiv Chips In” encourages employees to volunteer and engage with their teams and communities.
  • The ability and technology necessary to productively work remotely/from home (where applicable)
