Simulation Support Team Lead
GDIT is seeking highly experienced and qualified Simulation Support Team (SST) Lead to support our Mission Command (MC) training teams at the Fort Bliss, TX Mission Training Complex (MTC). The ideal candidate acts as a recognized technical expert in base labor category description.
HOW THE SIMULATION SUPPORT TEAM (SST) LEAD WILL MAKE AN IMPACT:
- Interact with the Network Manager to ensure synchronization.
- Manages and leads a team that provides the following:
- Maintains and updates tactical server operating systems (OS) and applications by applying Information Assurance Vulnerability Managements (IAVMS), Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs), run security updates against, and run vulnerability scans on the numerous server and workstation OS and applications to include but not limited to TSI, IFS, Domain Controllers (DC), Hypervisors (HV), ESXi VMware vSphere, and standalone (configuration and antivirus) workstations.
- Configuration & maintenance of C2IS to include current and future iterations (CPCE, AFATDS, TAIS, AMDWS, JADOCS, JBCP, MMC-S, DCGS-A) and have experience in integrating all C2IS systems into a simulation training environment to fulfill the needs of a simulation control plan.
- Operate the JLCCTC LE and UE simulation suite when not actively engaged in providing a simulation for a training unit exercise through use of a generic full scale combat operations scenario to generate a simulation feed to the MTC’s tactical servers and clients to ensure that the MTC’s full suite of simulation and mission command systems is functioning properly.
- Configure Mission Command Adaptor for thread testing to stimulate, as required, Army C2IS used during exercises.
- Provide simulation to MCIS integration using current and future hardware/software translation devices linked to the simulations (i.e. MCIS-J, DDS, ILOD, DXTRS, LOTS).
- Monitors and performs administration duties, provides technical support to users, and provides cross training for other technicians.
- Analyzes customer requirements and provides technical solutions to a wide range of difficult problems.
- Ensures the team download and apply Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) updates and plug-ins manually on required servers and workstations.
- Ensures the team updates and maintains documentation for servers and systems.
- Ensure the team maintains proficiency in emerging simulation/stimulation techniques and technologies.
- Download, apply, and maintain STIG checklists for all applicable systems to include future updates/replacement application systems (Server, DOTNET, Red hat Linux, Trellix (McAfee), Active Directory, Oracle JRE, Database, Windows 11, and any others as directed).
- Monitor and record exercise progress, conduct non-intrusive quality assurance, collect data for post-exercise analysis, and record check points at specified intervals to serve as exercise backup and historical documentation.
- Ensures the team performs daily, weekly, monthly, and annual checks on servers, workstations, and other required items on checklists as directed.
- Ensures the team performs weekly and monthly cleanup and backups of all servers.
- Work with the Security Manager and ISSM to ensure DoD Command Operational Readiness Assessment (CORA) standards are followed along with DODI 8510.01, AR 25-2, DA PAM 25-2-14.
- Work with accreditation authority and PM to ensure systems are accredited in collaboration with the MTC ISSM and ISSO to maintain the appropriate eMASS record. This includes creating and updating POAM items, SSP, diagrams, hardware/software lists and other reports as needed to and from the eMASS digital record in order to maintain accreditation for applicable systems.
- Ensure team provides support to the MTC, units, and other organizations during exercises.
- Assist Hub & Spoke sites (FT Cavazos, FT Carson, FT Riley, FT Sill, JBSA), which may include travel.
- Escort personnel in controlled and restricted spaces to include but not limited to, Department of Public Works (DPW) facility personnel in secure rooms for maintenance, repairs, and Computer Room Air Conditioner (CRAC) unit filter replacements, or vendor repair personnel when visiting MTC buildings.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned to include but not limited to scan peripherals for viruses, troubleshoot hardware and software problems, invoke warranties, research repair parts, and turn-in purchase requests.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED:
- Education: BA/BS in related field or equivalent years of relevant experience.
- Experience:
- Must have a minimum of eight years of related experience in military training and training support.
- Must have 5 years of computer experience in information systems design and management.
- At least 3 years of experience in analysis and design of business applications for complex large-scale or mid-tier computer systems, or LAN-based on a US Military staff (Battalion or higher).
- Experience in technical support and training requirements at Brigade or higher level.
- 3 years of experience in the management of project, program, or site of similar size, scope and complexity.
- A minimum of 8 years’ experience or equivalence in integrating training environments, planning network and simulation architectures and stimulation of Army MCISs in support of unit training events and distributed exercises
- Certifications: IAT level II Certified IAW DoD 8140 (previously 8570.01) on any one of the following
- CCNA, CySA+, GICSP, GSEC, Security+ CE, CND, SSCP
- Required Skills and Abilities:
- Maintain routine contact with the Joint Staff, NSC, GSC POCs and PM relevant proponents to ensure that the most current PEO-STRI and/or Program Manager’s system enhancements to simulation tools are available for use.
- Employ and incorporate the models and simulations into exercises to provide realistic and in-depth training environments to the training audience.
- Have an in- depth knowledge of virtual training simulators, and constructive simulations experience in order to recommend to the Government the most applicable simulation best suited to support the training unit’s proposed training objectives.
- Serve as the local hardware, software, and functional expert for fielded simulations to answer questions concerning operation of the system and to troubleshoot problems and provide configuration management on software/hardware systems.
- Manage and plan for all hardware/software upgrades and new installations during scheduled downtime or at the discretion of the Government.
- Must have a good understanding of TCP/IP networks and protocols.
- Must have administrative knowledge of Microsoft Server 2019, Red hat Linux, Windows 11, Active Directory, GPO Management, Domain Controllers, SQL, Exchange, SharePoint, FileShare, DDS, XMPP, ACAS, VMware VSphere, Microsoft Hyper Visor and other operating systems and applications.
- Be able to identify technical capability specifications for training and exercise equipment and systems.
- Preferred Qualifications:
- Hold additional certifications: Security X (formerly CASP+), CEH, CFR, CySA+, Pentest+, CCNP Security, GCIA
- Administrative knowledge of Microsoft Server 2022.
- Security Clearance Level: Secret required to start
- Additional Details:
- The usual daily work conditions will be in an office environment located at the Mission Training Complex (MTC), Fort Bliss, TX. The job requires occasional lifting of computer and other equipment, generally not more than 50 lbs., usually in connection with equipment transport to off-site locations for exercise events.
- Ability to work with little to no supervision on assigned tasks.
- Must be able to support shifts that occur outside normal working hours to support 24/7 operations during exercise events that may be more than 40 hours per week.
- Location: Onsite; Normal work schedule is 0730-1630, may require night or weekend work shifts depending on specific training event requirements
- Travel Required: 10%

The likely salary range for this position is $81,364 - $110,079. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.Scheduled Weekly Hours:
