Job Summary
The Systems Engineer (SME) is a highly skilled and experienced individual responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance, and support of complex network infrastructure. This role involves a wide range of activities, including supervising and performing additions and changes to network hardware and operating systems, providing direct operational support, troubleshooting complex communication problems, and participating in network infrastructure planning and design. The Systems Engineer (SME) ensures system integrity, security, and optimal performance through proactive monitoring, problem resolution, and the implementation of industry best practices. The Systems Engineer (SME) is also responsible for the design, deployment, evaluation, testing, certification, patching, and addressing interoperability issues of storage and backup systems, along with all features, components, and application dependencies.
Responsibilities may include:
- Supervising, coordinating, and/or performing additions and changes to network hardware, operating systems, and attached devices, including investigation, analysis, recommendation, configuration, installation, and testing
- Providing direct support in day-to-day operations on network hardware and operating systems, including evaluating system utilization, monitoring response time, and providing primary support for detection and correction of operational problems
- Troubleshooting network issues at the physical level, utilizing network measurement hardware and software, and perform physical checking and testing of hardware devices
- Troubleshooting network issues at the logical level, working with communication protocols
- Participating in planning, design, technical review, and implementation of new network infrastructure hardware and network operating systems for voice and data communication networks
- Performing systems management and integration functions.
Requirements
Required Minimum Education
- Education should be consistent with experience. Relevant experience and professional certifications can outweigh the need for a formal college degree
Required Years of Experience
- 10 years of relevant professional work experience
Required Skills, Qualifications, Technical Experience, etc.
- Fully Adjudicated Top Secret (TS) Security Clearance or greater
- Microsoft Windows, Active Directory (R)
- Understanding of NIST 800 series publications and Federal Information Security Management Act (FISMA) compliance.(R)
Preferred Skills, Qualifications, Technical Experience, etc.
- VMWare vSphere 7 experience (P)
- Cisco Networking (P)
- Dell Server, and SAN Storage hardware experience (P)
- Familiarity with system accreditation and authorization and the FBI’s ATO processes (P)
- Experience evaluating, documenting, and managing NIST 800-53 control implementations (P)
- Experience with GRC tools (RiskVision, Xacta and JCAM) (P)
Preferred Certifications:
- Microsoft Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate
- VMware Data Center Virtualization (VCP-DCV)
- Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP)
- Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)
- NIST NICE Work Roles - Systems Administration (IO-WRL-005); Network Administration (IO-WRL-004); Systems Authorization (OG-WRL-13)
