Edgewater Federal Solutions is seeking a detail-oriented and eager individual to serve as a Cybersecurity Specialist Intern supporting the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). This role will assist senior cybersecurity staff in performing security engineering tasks, contribute to engineering security initiatives, and help maintain the agency’s cyber hygiene. The intern will gain exposure to federal cybersecurity frameworks, tools, and operational processes. The candidate must be able to obtain a security badge and must live within driving distance of Washington, D.C. to be able to appear on site one day per week.
Responsibilities
Help update security documentation, and asset inventories
Support basic benchmarking and reporting tasks
Assist in policy compliance tracking and audit preparation
Participate in team meetings and contribute to daily security operations
Support incident response efforts by gathering and analyzing digital evidence
Help maintain security policies, procedures, and documentation
Conduct vulnerability assessments and contribute to risk management analyses
Collaborate with experienced cybersecurity professionals on projects and research tasks
Qualifications
- Currently pursuing or recently graduated with a degree in Cyber Security or IT related field.
Interest in cybersecurity and currently pursuing a related degree or certification
Basic understanding of security concepts, such as firewalls, malware, and access controls
Basic understanding of operating systems, applications and programming languages
Willingness to learn and follow established processes
U.S. Citizenship is required per contract due to the location and nature of the work
