Sovereign is looking for a logical and astute leader to lead the Technology E&O and Cyber underwriting team to ensure strong execution, operational efficiency and portfolio growth at a national level. The successful candidate will be skilled at implementing creative Technology E&O and Cyber insurance solutions.
This role will oversee a diverse portfolio across broker direct, delegated authority and MGA distribution channels.
The Manager, Tech & Cyber will oversee a national team of Technology E&O and Cyber underwriters, providing day to day leadership, support and technical oversight. This role will also be directly responsible for managing their own portfolio of business with expectation of new business opportunity growth. This team is responsible for providing expert underwriting services and risk-based insurance solutions to help clients to protect their business from cyber-attacks, data leaks and litigation.
How you will create impact:
- Lead an underwriting team to achieve company goals for growth and profit in a sustainable fashion
- Conducting ongoing reviews of existing accounts and programs, including conduct of audits, to ensure the quality of accounts underwritten and adherence to procedures and portfolio philosophy.
- Coaching and developing your team, recruiting and selecting talent, managing and rewarding performance, and fostering an agile culture to deliver on strategic objectives.
- Providing proactive portfolio management techniques to deliver enhanced profitability
- Communicate and ensure Sovereign customer service standards are met through actively building client awareness of the Tech Cyber product/service line and gathering feedback on overall quality of service.
- Identify and partner with other business areas to cross-sell as needed.
- Providing leadership and strategic direction on Broker, MGA and Assumed partner distribution segments.
- Develop and maintain relationships with our distribution partners within the broker, MGA and Strategic Partners space, by participating in partner visits, gathering quality of service feedback, and assisting in identifying and developing Technology E&O and Cyber Liability underwriting opportunities.
- Providing leadership and technical expertise for Technology E&O and Cyber risks to team members across Canada.
- Collaborating with underwriters on complex accounts, providing guidance and final approval to ensure alignment with underwriting standards and business strategy.
- Continually support internal development through mentorship, coaching and training
- Manage Talent review for your team and ensure necessary actions are executed (development plans, acquisition, exits, retention, recognition, etc).
- Prepare regular/special reports or presentations, as required
- Managing a book of business, including day to day underwriting of renewals, while actively pursuing new business growth opportunities.

To join our team:
- Bilingual – an important asset
- CIP/FCIP/RPLU and/or CRM designations
- 6-9 year of experience in Tech and Cyber underwriting, with a proven ability to lead, coach and develop a team of underwriters across varying seniority levels.
- Strong understanding of fundamental sales and business development strategies and practices.
- Experience working with MGA and white-labeled distribution partners will be an asset.
- Established broker network in Ontario will be an advantageous asset
- Strong comprehension and application of risk management principles
- Strong business acumen and customer service mindset effecting towards building stronger partner relations and profitability
- This position primarily works with majority non-francophone groups, and teams located outside of Québec, and requires proficiency in English. The essential non-French duties are not assignable to adjacent or other team members.
