Department: Operations – Services
Reports To: RavenTek Program Manager
Location: Remote
Schedule: Monday – Friday
Hours: Full-time, 40-hours/week

Position Summary
The Cybersecurity Architect position will support the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Electronic Health Record Modernization (EHRM) program, providing support to other Units and Offices within the VA to ensure the success of the program's mission. The Cybersecurity Architect will conduct security reviews of network diagrams/topologies, architecture diagrams, and associated Risk Management Framework (RMF) artifacts to proactively discover security issues prior to implementation. The performance of the Cybersecurity Architect position is key to RavenTek’s performance on the EHRM contract, and therefore RavenTek’s mission to support the VA.
Requirements
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Plan, design, and oversee deployment of complex enterprise-wide or large-scale information architectures including computer hardware and software, operating systems, middleware, communications hardware and software, and security components.
- Ensure systems are compatible and in compliance with the standards for open systems architectures as they apply to the implementation and specification of complex information management solutions.
- Review technical documentation and artifacts to assess a system/network for potential security issues, document potential courses of action to support resolution, and submit findings to the appropriate party.
- Respond to requests for assistance from the Network Security Operations (NSO) and Cyber teams.
- Engage with internal/external stakeholders to drive resolution of IT and cyber problems.
- Determine cybersecurity risks and threats present, document and monitor them, and escalate to leadership as appropriate.
- Serve as a liaison to the Department of Defense (DoD) personnel to resolve technical issues, assume ownership of the issue until it is complete, and develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) to proactively address those issues.
- Demonstrate expertise with VA and DoD policies, instructions, standards, guides, and requirements; validate that systems reviewed are compliant and identify for system owners where they are not.
- Provide input to cybersecurity artifacts and technical briefings given to clients.
- Develop technical briefs for senior leaders and executives that can explain complex technical information concisely and accurately.
- Collect information or intelligence necessary to conduct the full scale of your responsibilities.
- Provide Monthly Status Report (MSR) to RavenTek Program Manager by deadline provided.
- Enter actual time worked, once complete, at the end of the day, or no later than 10:00 a.m. the following workday, and submit timesheets at the end of each pay period.
- Monitor and respond to RavenTek email a minimum of 3 times per week.
- Complete required compliance training as assigned.
- Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, and Critical Skills
- Engineering-level knowledge of what would work on a network/system diagram and what is missing.
- Ability to make technical decisions and to take a position that may be debated by other engineers or cybersecurity professionals.
- Ability to work both independently and under supervision.
Education & Work Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering, Business, or related field is required, or an additional 8 years of experience may be substituted for degree requirements.
- 5+ years of professional work experience in related field.
- Experience in identifying necessary interfaces between enterprise solution applications and legacy IT environments.
- Experience in supporting all program/project planning and milestone development.
- Experience supporting business case analysis and identification of alternative solutions and resulting business impacts.
- VA experience preferred.
- Experience implementing Electronic Health Records.

- Ability to obtain Public Trust Clearance.
Work Environment
Employee will be working indoors in an office environment with other people. Potential moderate temperature fluctuations. Typical indoor and computer related noise level, and typical office, paper, and equipment related dust. Exposure to video display terminals occurs on a regular basis.
Physical Demands
To successfully perform the essential functions of the job, the employee needs to be able to sit at a workstation for extended periods; use hand(s) to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear; see to read printed materials and computer screens; mobility to work in a typical office setting. Ability to work on desktop or laptop computer for extended periods of time reading, reviewing/analyzing information, and may be required to provide recommendations, summaries and/or reports in written format. Must be able to effectively communicate with others verbally and in writing. Employee must be able to lift and/or move moderate amounts of weight, typically up to 20 pounds. Regular and predictable attendance is essential.
