Job Summary:

The Social Security Analyst is responsible for supporting both internal and external partners throughout the life of a disability claim that has a Social Security component. The Analyst carries out multiple reviews to identify and determine whether insureds may be suitable candidates to pursue claims for primary and dependent Social Security (“SS”) benefits as well as maintain the appropriate offsets in the disability claim. They also provide direction, technical advice, and assistance to members of the Claims Department and external SS Advocacy vendors as needed.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensures that all LTD claims awaiting approval are reviewed within 48 hours of receipt to assess the potential success of a claim for SS benefits, completing the appropriate form(s), creating and/or closing the appropriate claim system diary codes or tasks, and making entries in the appropriate system(s) to ensure accurate reserving and benefit payment.
  • Develop and implement a schedule of recurring data reviews to revisit LTD claims periodically where appropriate to reassess the potential success of a claim for SS benefits. 
  • Utilizes available reporting tools as necessary to track SS claims, and vendor referrals
  • Ensures that SS estimates and/or awards are promptly captured in the appropriate system; that benefits are recalculated promptly and accurately, and that appropriate action is taken on any benefit underpayment or overpayment.
  • Offers Social Security advocacy services as appropriate through the use of approved vendors and/or attorney advocates.  Reviews and processes, where appropriate, vendor invoices.
  • Identifies and addresses any other issues concerning Other Income Benefits as applicable, including but not limited to requests to discontinue SS estimates and the handling of requests for wage information from the Social Security Administration.
  • Communicates in writing or by phone with claimants, the Social Security Administration, attorneys and others concerning complex or unusual SS benefit issues as well as any other benefit offset issues which may arise under the applicable policy.
  • Stays abreast of any changes in the applicable Social Security laws and regulations.
  • Reviews and interprets awards and other correspondence from the Social Security
  • Monitors Social Security approval rates for potential trends, ensuring that the underlying data is appropriately captured.
  • May testify as necessary in legal proceedings.
  • All other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, COMPETENCIES, AND/OR RELATED EXPERIENCE

*or equivalent experience gained from any combination of formal education, on-the-job training, and/or work and life experience*

  • Relevant Bachelor’s Degree desirable, preferably in a business or related field.
  • Completion of HIAA, LOMA or ICA courses desired. 
  • Experience in the processing of insurance claims desirable. Experience in the handling of long-term disability claims or integrated disability claims helpful.
  • The ability to handle multiple competing priorities and function with minimal supervision.
  • Proven ability to work well in a high visibility, publicly oriented environment, with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to work with the following equipment:  P.C. (including Word and Excel), telephone, fax machine, calculator.
  • Prior experience using an automated claim system desirable.

Ability to Travel: Up to 10%

                                          

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

“Frequent”: regularly performed; generally an act that is required on a daily basis

“Continuous”: typically performed for the majority of an employee’s shift

Sitting for prolonged periods of time, frequently standing, walking distances up to one mile, bending, crouching, kneeling, reaching, occasionally lifting 25lbs, extensive typing, picking up and holding small objecting and otherwise using primarily the fingers rather than the entire hand.  Employee is required to have visual acuity sufficient to perform activities such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing notes; viewing a computer terminal and extensive reading. The expected hiring range for this position is $66,640.00 - $83,300.00 annually for work performed in the primary location (Philadelphia, PA). This expected hiring range covers only base pay and excludes any other compensation components such as commissions or incentive awards. The successful candidate’s starting base pay will be based on several factors including work location, job-related skills, experience, qualifications, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.


Work location may be flexible if approved by the Company.
