Summary of Job Duties:

The Research Compliance Analyst will support the Office of Research and Innovation in the implementation of the research security training program at UAMS. The analyst will be responsible for the monitoring and education of research security practices used to support UAMS researchers. He/she will work with UAMS faculty, researchers, the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs, the Office of Research Information Systems and other university divisions/departments to perform this role.

He/she will have strong organizational skills, high attention to detail and a self-starter. The analyst will have the ability to interpret government regulations and communicate complex regulations and requirements to other. He/she will be required to maintain confidentiality related to sensitive information and to perform and document detailed reviews of complex situations.


Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Business Management, Public Administration, Data Science, or related field.
  • 3 years of experience in research administration, research compliance, data governance, auditing, monitoring or related area.
  • Special knowledge, abilities, and skills: Modern office practices and equipment, including applicable software (Workday, Excel, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Business Management, Public Administration, Data Science, or related field.
  • 4 years of experience in research administration, research compliance, data governance or related area.
  • Licenses, certificates, or registration: Data Governance Certificate and/or Research Compliance.


Additional Information:

45% - Provides guidance and advises researchers on questions and issues related to research security & ensures researchers meet federal guidelines requiring research security training.

  • Review grant proposals for senior/key personnel compliance with federal regulations pertaining to research security, certifying that required individuals have completed training modules and update as needed.
  • Review federal and state statutory and regulatory updates and other resource materials to remain abreast of national and state trends in research compliance (specifically pertaining to National Security Presidential Memorandum 33).

20% Track and maintain auditable records of all documents pertaining to completion of research security training.

  • Maintain auditable records of all relevant documents/systems pertaining to completion of required research security training for covered individuals
  • Manage the research security program, including development of policies and procedures to respond to security issues; serve as UAMS’ expert resource, advise research faculty, study teams and leadership.
  • Coordinate development and continual maintenance of a research security training program, including in person and web-based instruction; ensure the research security website and web-based resources remain up to date.

20% Work with other offices (ORSP, compliance, ORIS, SciCOM) to review and provide federal and state statutory and regulatory updates to remain abreast of national and state trends in research compliance.

  • Work with the division and leadership in creation and management of the Research Security Committee, meeting as needed, to conduct risk assessments and create corrective actions/improvement plans as needed.
  • Prepare and work with division and collaborators to facilitate appropriate communications with training updates and new requirements.
  • Collaborate with additional divisions and departments in export control, international collaborations, travel and cybersecurity to increase effectiveness of compliance to NSPM-33 and any future mandates.

10% Work with ORSP review proposal elements for consistency, accuracy, and completeness of research security requirements.

  • Collaborate with Office of Research and Sponsored Programs (ORSP), Office of Research Information Systems (ORIS), SciCOM and compliance to provide timely updates and education on related matters in proposals and awards.

5% Performs other duties as assigned.
