The System Administrator supports secure and resilient operations of PKI infrastructure and associated systems for an agency leveraging DoD infrastructure. This includes managing RA workstations, ensuring system compliance with cybersecurity frameworks, and supporting audit readiness for DoD PKI inspections.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain and monitor systems supporting PKI services, including Certificate Authorities (CAs), OCSP responders, Key Recovery Agents (KRAs), and supporting infrastructure.
- Administer and support Registration Authority (RA) workstations, ensuring functionality, availability, and compliance with DISA and DoD PKI standards.
- Implement software updates, patches, and configuration changes in accordance with STIGs and system baselines.
- Provide Tier 1 and Tier 2 system support for PKI-related service disruptions, certificate issues, and access control failures.
- Troubleshoot integration issues with Active Directory, LDAP, and other directory services used in certificate-based authentication.
- Maintain documentation of system configurations, change logs, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Ensure continuous compliance with RMF security controls and support the generation and maintenance of ATO documentation.
- Participate in and support internal and external DoD PKI audits, including system artifact collection, configuration reviews, and remediation of audit findings.
- Collaborate with ISSOs, Registration Authorities, and cybersecurity teams to enforce secure system operations across both SIPRNet and UNCLASS networks.
Requirements
- 3–5 years of experience in system administration, with specific focus on DoD IT environments.
- Direct experience managing and securing RA workstations and PKI-supporting systems.
- Knowledge of DoD PKI architecture, certificate lifecycle management, and identity assurance practices.
- Proficient in applying DISA STIGs, managing Group Policy, and conducting vulnerability remediation using tools such as ACAS/Nessus.
- Experience with virtualization platforms (VMware, Hyper-V), and backup/recovery operations.
- Strong documentation and audit readiness skills.
- Must hold a DoD 8570 IAT Level II certification (e.g., Security+ CE).
- Familiarity with tools such as STIG Viewer, eMASS, and HBSS is a plus.
