Collins Aerospace, an RTX company, is seeking a highly skilled Principal Systems Security Engineer (PSSE) to drive cybersecurity initiatives, ensure compliance with security frameworks, and support embedded systems and systems engineering (SE) efforts. This is not an IT or programming role—instead, this is an embedded cybersecurity role that focuses on technical writing, system security analysis, and requirements assessment. This role requires a strong leader who can interface with customers, guide teams, and contribute to the security posture of mission-critical systems.
What You Will Do
• Lead cybersecurity efforts for embedded systems, ensuring compliance with NIST RMF security controls, and NSA security requirements
• Develop, interpret, and document security requirements for complex systems engineering (SE) environments
• Support Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) efforts, ensuring security requirements are incorporated into system models
• Work with requirements management tools (e.g., DOORS, JIRA, Cameo) to track, validate, and verify security requirements
• Collaborate with systems engineers and developers to integrate security controls into embedded systems and software architectures; As well as verification engineers to develop test methods and procedures for formal cybersecurity requirement verification
• Perform security testing and validation for embedded systems, including automated vulnerability scanning
• Conduct security risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies tailored to embedded environments
• Provide technical leadership, mentoring team members and ensuring adherence to security best practices
• Perform cost account management, cybersecurity program planning, and serve as the System Security Engineering liaison to engineering leadership and program management
• Participate in proposal writing and development, crafting security solutions for bids and working in proposal teams
Qualifications You Must Have
• Experience leading security efforts for embedded systems and mission-critical software
• Strong knowledge of NIST RMF SP 800-53, NSA security requirements, and risk management frameworks
• Experience with systems engineering processes, including modeling, requirements management, traceability, and verification
• Familiarity with requirements management tools (e.g., DOORS, JIRA, Cameo) and model-based security approaches
• Experience with security risks and attack vectors specific to embedded systems, such as firmware vulnerabilities and hardware-level threats
• Ability to perform security testing and validation, including automated vulnerability scanning
• Strong proposal writing experience, with the ability to articulate security solutions in proposals and RFP responses
• Excellent communication and leadership skills, capable of interfacing with customers and guiding teams
• Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience
• Active and transferable U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date
• U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
Qualifications We Prefer
• CISSP certification (or ability to obtain within six months)
• Experience with security assessments and risk analysis for embedded systems
• Experience with earned value management and cost account management
• Familiarity with secure software development and integration in real-time or safety-critical environments
• Knowledge of supply chain security risks in embedded system development
• Active Top Secret security clearance
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, or a related field OR 10+ years of experience in systems security engineering
