Overview

How you can make a difference  

 

As our Distinguished Engineer, you will be the technical cornerstone of HealthEquity’s fraud and security product portfolio. You will conceptualize and lead hands-on development of core services and other novel, large-scale software solutions—using type-safe languages (Go, Rust), embed cryptographic primitives and secure programming —to detect, prevent, and respond to evolving cyber and fraud threats. You will operationalize prototypes into resilient, cloud-native services (Kubernetes, container orchestration, service mesh), mentor engineering teams, and set the bar for secure, performant code at scale. Your contributions will directly reduce fraud losses, raise the bar on reliability and performance, and mentor engineering teams to deliver cutting-edge solutions at scale.

 

What you’ll be doing 

• Technical Vision & Innovation:Define end-to-end architecture for next-gen fraud detection, threat-intel processing, secure payment workflows, and encryption services. Prototype and validate emerging technologies (confidential computing, secure enclaves, zero trust frameworks), then operationalize proven approaches.
• Secure-by-Design Leadership:Author and evangelize secure-coding practices, cryptographic standards, and conduct threat-modeling workshops across engineering teams. Enforce secure-coding practices through peer reviews, static/dynamic analysis tools, and continuous security training for all engineers. 
• Product Development at Scale:Lead hands-on development of core services and libraries in Go/Rust, ensuring high throughput, low latency, and zero-downtime deployments.
• Cloud-Native Platform Engineering for Fraud and Security:Lead implementation of resilient microservices architecture - using container orchestration, service mesh patterns, and GitOps pipelines, to achieve 99% uptime. Define observability strategy: distributed tracing, custom metrics, and automated anomaly detection to meet SLOs
• Mentorship & Standards:Coach senior and principal engineers on system design, performance optimization, and operational readiness. Establish engineering best practices: API versioning, using GenAI copilot technology, semantic releases, dependency management, and incident-response processes. 

What you will need to be successful

• Bachelor's degree in data science, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related field
• 12+ years of software engineering experience, with 5+ years in Fraud/Cybersecurity product development.
• Expert in functional/type-safe languages (Go, Rust) and secure programming patterns.
• Deep understanding of cryptography (PKI, symmetric/asymmetric, key management) and data security (encryption at rest/in transit).
• Proven track record building and operating cloud-native microservices on Kubernetes.
• Strong leadership presence: architect reviews, cross-team influence, hands-on coding.

Preferred

• Advanced degree (M.S./Ph.D.) in Computer Science, Security or related.
• Contributions to open-source security/crypto projects.
• Experience with service meshes and cloud security tooling.
• Experience with confidential computing (Intel SGX, AMD SEV) and emerging security standards.
• Professional certs: CISSP, CISM.

Salary Range

$144000.00 To $200,000.00 / year
