Northrop Grumman Space Systems—Launch and Missile Defense Systems has an exciting career opportunity for a Principal Cyber Sys Engineer – Network Security Engineer III (25-187) to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position, located in Colorado Springs, CO., plays a crucial role in our mission to support the U.S. president, secretary of defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels.

Position Overview:

About C2BMC: The Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program is the integrating element of the Missile Defense System. It is a vital operational system that enables the U.S. president, secretary of defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels to systematically plan ballistic missile defense operations, to collectively see the battle develop, and to dynamically manage designated networked sensors and weapons systems to achieve global and regional mission objectives. C2BMC supports a layered missile defense capability that enables an optimized response to threats of all ranges in all phases of flight. C2BMC is the force multiplier that globally and regionally networks, integrates, and synchronizes autonomous sensor and weapon systems and operations to optimize performance. C2BMC is an integral part of all system ground and flight tests, which verify and exercise all current and future missile defense system capabilities.

In this role, the candidate will be responsible for providing technical support for the assessment of compliance of information systems with DoD RMF standards (review, verify, and validate required DoD IA RMF documentations and artifacts using DoDI 8510.01/DoD Risk Management Framework).

Essential Functions:

  • Must have proven experience in developing Cyber-secure Network device configurations (Firewalls, switches, routers)
  • Will be a primary Network Security Engineer supporting the C2BMC Program
  • Will be responsible for planning, deploying, integrating, and testing upgrades to the C2BMC network at operational sites
  • Required to conduct research on different networking and security-related topics independently and produce reports on findings
  • Required to make sure that the teams’ devices are STIG's and hardened appropriately, and running all Cyber protocols needed
  • Able to thoroughly document project design and development efforts
  • Collaborate with other departments to explain network security requirements and compliance
  • Security hardening basics for a wide range of niche products, software, and applications
  • Able to summarize, brief, and recommend solutions to security issues to leadership

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, or related discipline preferred from an accredited university and 5 years of related experience, or a Master’s degree in a related discipline and 3 years of experience, or 9 years of related experience instead of a degree may be considered
  • Applicants must have a current active in-scope DoD-issued Secret security clearance at the time of application, which is required to start
  • DoD 8140 certification at IAT Level II or higher (Security+ CE, CASP+ CE, CySA+, GICSP, GSEC, SSCP, CND, GICSP, CCNA Security, etc.) is required
  • Must be able to travel to alternate work locations, such as Schriever Space Force Base, to execute job duties such as deployments
  • Must understand the OSI Model, TCP/IP, VLANs, and UDP Multicast
  • Must have firewall configuration knowledge, such as:
    • Juniper
    • Cisco
    • Palo Alto
  • Must know about ACL design and function
  • Must have hands-on experience with multi-vendor switching/routing (Juniper, Cisco)
  • Must be an effective communicator with excellent writing and presentation skills using Microsoft PowerPoint and the Visio drawing tool
  • Must be able to design security configurations and testing procedures
  • Must be familiar with the NIST CVE framework
  • Must have experience with virtualization
  • Must be able to work collaboratively in a team environment with other highly motivated network and system engineers
  • Intermediate knowledge of security design, development, and testing methodologies
  • Experienced in application of standard DOD security practices such as:
    • STIG compliance
    • System accreditation implementation efforts
  • Understand the basics of VMware and ESXi STIGing/Hardening

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Current and Active in-scope DoD-Issued Top Secret clearance is highly desired
  • Scripting knowledge in Python, Ansible, and PowerShell is highly desired
  • A solid understanding of JUNOS is desired
  • Prior C2BMC experience

Additional Northrop Grumman Information:

Salary Range: $110,300.00 - $165,500.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
