Job Description

Mission Technologies, a division of Huntington Ingalls Industries, is searching for a qualified candidate to fill the role of Systems Administrator III for NITE. The Navy Integrated Training Environment (NITE) Systems Administrator III serves as a senior technical resource within the service desk, responsible for advanced troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and escalation coordination for the Navy Enterprise Tactical Training Network (NETTN) client and server infrastructure. This infrastructure supports enterprise-wide modeling and simulation applications and services for the NITE.

The candidate will collaborate closely with multiple internal teams to identify and resolve complex technical issues, support systems in virtualized and Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) environments, and ensure system documentation and configurations meet DoD cybersecurity compliance standards, including STIGs. Additional duties include contributing to change management activities, creating automation scripts, mentoring junior staff, and providing expert-level input on technology improvements.

Essential Job Responsibilities

Maintains smooth operation of multi-user computer systems, including coordination with network administrators, security teams, and engineering personnel. Responsibilities include advanced troubleshooting, root cause analysis, escalation routing, and direct support of virtual and physical systems within the Navy Enterprise Tactical Training Network (NETTN). This role involves supporting both Windows and Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) environments, including systems managed through Red Hat Satellite, and requires strong familiarity with VMware-based virtual infrastructures. The administrator is responsible for developing and maintaining automation scripts to improve efficiency, participating in change management processes, and ensuring system documentation is complete, accurate, and compliant with DoD Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIG). Additional duties include maintaining system documentation, contributing technical input on service improvements, mentoring junior administrators, and collaborating with multiple departments to ensure consistent delivery of IT services and mission support.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 6 years relevant experience with a Bachelor's degree in a related field OR
  • 4 years relevant experience with a Master’s degree in a related field OR
  • High School Diploma or equivalent and 10 years relevant experience.
  • Active U.S. Secret security clearance.
  • Security+ or equivalent DoD 8570 IAT Level II certification.
  • Experience with Microsoft Windows operating systems and Active Directory administration.
  • Experience supporting Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) environments.
  • Familiarity with virtualization technologies, such as VMware.
  • Experience creating and maintaining automation or administrative scripts (e.g., PowerShell, Bash).
  • Proven ability to perform root cause analysis, escalate complex issues appropriately, and provide Tier 2/3-level support in a service desk environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to document procedures and communicate technical information clearly.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.

Preferred Requirements

  • Experience using Red Hat Satellite for RHEL system management.
  • Working knowledge of Windows 10 Secure Host Baseline (SHB) configurations and DoD STIG compliance.
  • Familiarity with enterprise ITSM tools and ticketing systems.
  • Experience participating in change management and configuration control processes.
  • Prior experience mentoring junior technical staff or service desk personnel.
  • Understanding of cybersecurity best practices within DoD or government environments.
  • Ability to analyze technical issues and provide recommendations on system improvements or service enhancements.

Physical Requirements

Adequate visual acuity and manual dexterity for meeting the requirements of the Systems Analyst discipline.
