Job Summary
The Network Engineer (Mid) is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining secure and efficient network systems. This role involves gathering user requirements, developing technical documentation, and supporting the full lifecycle of network infrastructure from design through deployment and maintenance. The engineer will leverage a deep understanding of networking protocols, hardware, and cloud infrastructure to troubleshoot issues, improve performance, and contribute to resilient network solutions. The position also plays a key role in supporting Continuity of Operations (COOP) efforts and ensuring interoperability across all network components.
Responsibilities may include:
- Gather user network requirements using multiple methodologies to develop system requirements documents, security requirements, and system test plans.
- Install, maintain, and evaluate network and communications systems to ensure optimal performance.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex network issues involving a variety of protocols, topologies, and hardware configurations.
- Contribute to network architecture design and conduct feasibility and cost studies for new network initiatives.
- Collaborate with team members to enhance current network designs and develop innovative solutions.
- Apply technical expertise in routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, and software-defined networking to support infrastructure improvements.
- Continuously refine processes for deploying and maintaining network systems to improve efficiency and reliability.
- Independently and collaboratively identify opportunities to enhance network services and solutions.
- Support Continuity of Operations (COOP) as needed to maintain service availability during disruptions.
- Design, test, certify, and patch network systems while addressing interoperability and application dependency requirements.
Requirements
Required Minimum Education
- Education should be consistent with experience. Relevant experience and professional certifications can outweigh the need for a formal college degree
Required Years of Experience
- 5 years of relevant professional work experience
Required Skills, Qualifications, Technical Experience, etc.
- Fully Adjudicated Top Secret (TS) Security Clearance or greater
- Microsoft Windows Active Directory
- Understanding of NIST 800 series publications and Federal Information Security Management Act (FISMA) compliance
Preferred Skills, Qualifications, Technical Experience, etc.
- VMWare vSphere 7 experience
- Cisco Networking
- Dell Server, and SAN Storage hardware experience
- Familiarity with system accreditation and authorization and the FBI’s ATO processes
- Experience evaluating, documenting, and managing NIST 800-53 control implementations
- Experience with GRC tools (RiskVision, Xacta and JCAM)
- Microsoft Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate
- VMware Data Center Virtualization (VCP-DCV)
- Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP)
- Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)
- NIST NICE Work Roles - Systems Administration (IO-WRL-005); Network Administration (IO-WRL-004); Systems Authorization (OG-WRL-13)
