Sr Director, Cyber Threat Intel

Cybersecurity is essential to Capital One’s commitment to protect our customers and associates. In support of this, we are looking for a leader for our Cyber Intelligence team whose mission is to leverage cyber threat intelligence for good, to counter, disrupt and mitigate cyber adversaries targeting Capital One customers, associates, infrastructure and brand. 

You have a growth mindset when it comes to maintaining expertise and knowledge in threat adversary trends and technologies. We are looking for someone who takes a forward leaning, innovative approach to problem solving, with passion for solving problems at Capital One scale and the desire to collaborate across enterprise functional teams.  You understand when to escalate issues, risks and concerns and help assess and address root causes. You will lead a team of dynamic and talented cybersecurity professionals who want to learn from your experience and skills and remain resilient in the face of significant change or ambiguity.

Responsibilities: 

  • Create mechanisms to "connects the dots" between different spaces in order to highlight cyber threats across fraud, cybercrime and advanced threat activities

  • Maintain industry-wide expertise of the current cyber threat landscape and attack vectors

  • Develops and drives a multi-team strategy that gives associates vision, direction, and energy, connecting to the broader organizational objectives

  • Build productive relationships with internal teams to contextualize, influence and inform across Capital One’s business

  • Communicate investigative outcomes and conclusions to a variety of audiences, including company and Cyber senior leadership and relevant business partners

  • Engaged people and talent manager who is a leader of leaders and can proactively identify critical talent segments, plans ahead for talent needs, and sets strategies for engaging and retaining talent

  • As this is a leadership role on an operational team, after-hours support of security incidents and/or threat activity will sometimes occur during non-standard hours when necessary.

About You:

  • You have expert knowledge of the cyber threat landscape (including financial crimes) and the ability to communicate those threats to senior leadership.

  • You have advanced understanding of indicators, tools and tactics utilized by cyber adversaries and fraud actors, and mitigation strategies.

  • You have a proven ability to lead and grow a multifunctional cybersecurity organization.

  • You are experienced in leading transformational change programs.

  • You are a coach and mentor with the ability to drive improvement and high potential development in others.

  • You are adept at critical thinking, writing, and briefing.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree 

  • At least 9 years of experience working in cybersecurity or information technology performing incident response, threat hunting, threat intelligence, forensics, or offensive security

  • At least 5 years of experience in conducting investigations into cyber-enabled fraud, cybercrime, or advanced persistent threats

  • At least 7 years of experience in people management
     

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree

  • 10+ years of hands-on and leadership experience in cyber security and financial crimes.

  • 5+ years of experience in securing public cloud environments and services (AWS, GCP, Azure)

  • Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Certified Cloud Security Professional (CCSP), AWS Certification, or Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) certification

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

Chicago, IL: $280,600 - $320,200 for Sr. Dir, Cyber Technical

Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
