The Risk, Data and Insight Systems (RDIS) Branch delivers and maintains critical ICT systems capability to business areas across Home Affairs, the Australian Border Force (ABF), the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the Cyber and Infrastructure Security Centre (CISC).
RDIS has responsibility for threat and risk systems across visa, travel, cargo and mail, situational awareness, decision support and incident management systems for Maritime Border Command (MBC), ABF and NEMA, data applications and reporting systems, analysis and intelligence systems, data engineering and integration, and enterprise data and geospatial platforms.
The Cloud Platforms Section is responsible for overseeing the departments multi-tenant cloud environments, providing the foundational platforms and centralised services to underpin the departments cloud enablement and capabilities.

Our ideal candidate
Our ideal candidate will possess knowledge and hands-on experience architecting, implementing, configuring, and maintaining cloud platforms and services. The Cloud Engineering Leader will be instrumental in ensuring the continuity of the operation and optimisation of cloud applications and services within our organisation. This role requires a deep understanding of cloud technologies and involves managing a range of centrally managed cloud services within a multi cloud environment.
Duties and responsibilities
- Manage the department's Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud environments, including provisioning, configuration, and monitoring of core platforms, centralised cloud services, and landing zones.
- Apply processes to expedite service delivery across managed solutions. With a focus to enhance departmental maturity and resilience, elevating the existing security posture. With a focus to ensure alignment to corporate obligations.
- Adhering to the department's ICT service management practices, manage the prompt remediation of issues to ensure service availability and continuity.
- Provide leadership, mentoring and strategic guidance, to a diverse team of engineers with varying skill sets and backgrounds - ensuring sustainable operations through the development of comprehensive documentation to underpin enduring support.
- Foster departmental cloud adoption through positive collaboration with internal stakeholders - supporting the design and implementation of cloud solutions that meet emerging departmental requirements.
Additional information
The following would be considered highly desirable:
- In-depth experience in the delivery of cloud platforms services for AWS and/or Azure
- Experience developing and delivering large scale cloud platform services to a large government agency or corporate organisation
- Demonstrated experience in the design, implementation, and sustainment, of cost-effective, resilient cloud solutions that meet business demands - providing alignment to security and compliance obligations
- Highly developed analytical, fault diagnosis and problem-solving skills and contribute to strategic solutions in a changing environment
- Demonstrated proficiency in the development of infrastructure as code to automate the provisioning and management of cloud resources
- Well-developed stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills, with ability to negotiate outcomes as required
- Strong understanding of cloud financial operations and modelling, to deliver fiscally responsible cloud solutions
- Cloud certifications for AWS, Microsoft Azure, or multi-cloud
- Tertiary qualifications in Cloud, ICT Infrastructure, Networking or Cyber Security

Eligibility
To be eligible for the position you must be an Australian Citizen.
The successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain a Negative Vetting Level 1 (AGSVA) security clearance, and:
- ABF Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC).
- Home Affairs Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Onboarding Check.
In certain circumstances, an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC) may be required in addition to, or in lieu of, an Onboarding Check, which will be determined by the delegate as necessary.
