Job Title: Systems Security Engineer II
Reports to: On-Site IT Program Manager
Summary/Objective:
The Systems Security Engineer II will work within the base Cybersecurity team on full spectrum Cybersecurity, from Policy and Governance to Vulnerability Management and Threat Defense.
Responsibilities:
The Systems Security Engineer II at AFRL will have generalized knowledge or experience in federal or corporate Cybersecurity with 1-3 years’ experience in the following:
- Vulnerability Management
- Vulnerability scanning/identification
- Mitigation/remediation
- Threat Defense
- Intrusion detection/protection
- SIEM Log/Event correlation
- Governance and Compliance
- Policy
- Auditing
Equipment/Systems:
This position requires frequent use of computers, printers, and various software applications. Experience with MS Office products, ticketing systems, and IT asset management software is essential.
Competencies: The Systems Security Engineer IV role requires attention to detail, accuracy, excellent listening skills, and effective communication. Technical proficiency in computer hardware, software, and networking is also required. The ability to multi-task, prioritize, and work independently is critical.
Work Environment & Physical Demands:
This job operates primarily in an office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and printers. Duties may require lifting of computer equipment, using ladders, walking large office buildings, and loading/unloading of boxes, containers, or trucks.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time exempt position; typical work hours and days are Monday through Friday, regular business hours; additional hours as needed to ensure performance across the program.
Travel: Primarily local travel for user support
Requirements
Required Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Security+ or equivalent DoD 8140 certification.
- 5+ years of experience in computer support or IT customer service.
Preferred Education and Experience:
- Experience with government IT asset management (ITAM) systems.
- CompTIA Security+ or higher level Cybersecurity certificates.
- Degree preferred, but not required.
Work Authorization/Security Clearance:
- Requires active Secret clearance from the U.S. Government depending on position
