The Security Engineer role is a full-time position that operates on our cybersecurity team. The main responsibilities include implementing solutions and maintaining customer deployments as necessary. A significant part of the job is concentrated on compliance guidelines and tools. This professional will be tasked with developing a comprehensive knowledge of our customers' environments and serving as a strategic consultant, directing customers towards optimal solutions that fulfill their requirements.

Job Overview

  • Configure, implement, and maintain all security platforms and any other related software, such as routers, switches, intrusion detection or intrusion prevention, and other network component policies for customers
  • Plan and conduct ongoing assessment of antivirus, application control, firewall, SIEM, VPN, SSL, intrusion detection or intrusion prevention, and other network component policies
  • Collaborate with sales, product management, engineering, and other departments on security-related items
  • Strong planning experience and accountability – including the ability to maintain structure, provide detailed communication and follow-up, and assertiveness to meet mission directives
  • Regularly monitor customer security tools and software like firewalls, antivirus systems, and intrusion detection systems to identify any suspicious activity
  • Perform vulnerability assessments and security audits to identify weaknesses in the customers systems and networks. Analyze risks associated with identified vulnerabilities and recommend appropriate mitigation strategies.
  • Help to develop, implement, and enforce security policies and procedures that protect the customers information assets.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest security trends, threats, and technologies.
  • Research new security tools and technologies that could improve the organization's security posture.
  • Assist in ensuring that the organization complies with relevant security standards and regulations. This may involve preparing for audits and helping to address any compliance issues that arise.
  • Participate in or lead specific security projects aimed at enhancing the organization's security infrastructure or addressing specific security challenges.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Security, or a related field required
  • High School diploma, or GED required
  • Minimum 4 years' experience in technology field
  • Relevant certifications such as PCNSA or PCNSE are highly desirable
  • Experience supporting the deployment of the following products: Palo Alto, Cisco, Tenable, Check Point Fortinet, F5
  • Experience with compliance and public sector guidelines such as Pub 1075, DISA STIG and CIS
  • Familiarity with various security technologies and tools, including SIEM, vulnerability management, endpoint protection, and threat intelligence platforms
  • Solid understanding of network protocols, TCP/IP, firewalls, and security concepts
  • Strong understanding of common network protocols, operating systems, and security technologies
  • Strong knowledge of current IT risks and security implementations
  • Passion for knowledge of current technological advances
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to assess complex security automation requirements and design effective solutions
  • Must naturally exude team-building, motivating, and conflict-resolving qualities
  • Experience with agile/lean methodologies
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple priorities while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Continuous learning mindset, staying abreast of emerging threats, vulnerabilities, and security trends

 

Environmental Factors and Physical Requirements

This is a hybrid position. Candidates located within the United States will be considered, with preference given to Columbia, SC

  • Physical environmental factors of this position include those found in typical business office environment or home office environment.
  • Requires use of general office equipment and personal computer equipment.
  • Ability to travel. Various means of travel may be required, including auto and air travel. This position requires travel: Rarely
  • May be required to work irregular schedules including but not limited to as applicable: Nights, weekends, holidays, on-call, and/or overtime.
