About the Role
You’ll be working as a Lead Developer to help drive quality engineering initiatives as a key contributor in our Engineering Excellence organization. This critical role will ensure that our developers and QA teams have the tools, frameworks, and best practices needed to improve software quality, streamline workflows, and support shift-left development methodologies. This role will blend hands-on test automation experience and technical domain expertise with industry leading test tools & frameworks. With an explicit focus shifting left with SonarQube, test case management, code & unit test coverage, and API, UI and AI testing tooling & frameworks. You will also take a leadership role in configuring and optimizing these tools to align with Arctic Wolf Networks’ software development practices.
Key Responsibilities
Standardization of Test Tools & Frameworks
Define, implement, and maintain standardized testing tools and frameworks across the engineering organization.
Focus on tools such as SonarQube, XRay, Zephyr, TestRail, Playwright, Cypress, Postman, Pytest and code/unit test coverage frameworks for Python, Golang, and React.
Ensure tools and frameworks are seamlessly integrated into CI/CD pipelines and engineering workflows.
SonarQube Expertise
Lead the implementation and optimization of SonarQube Enterprise Edition and SonarQube IDE to support shift-left software development practices.
Configure advanced SonarQube features such as Quality Gates, rule customization, and reporting to enforce clean code standards.
Train developers on SonarQube best practices, enabling them to leverage the tool for maintaining high-quality codebases.
Test Case Management
Standardize and promote the use of test case management tools such as XRay, Zephyr, or TestRail to organize and track test cases and execution results.
Collaborate with QA and engineering teams to ensure test management tools align with workflows and project requirements.
Front-End Testing
Implement and support Playwright for both end-to-end and component testing of front-end applications.
Promote best practices for testing modern React applications, ensuring high test coverage and reliable user experience validation.
Code Coverage and Unit Test Coverage
Implement and optimize code coverage and unit test coverage frameworks for key languages like Python, Golang, and React.
Ensure tools such as GoCover (Golang), Coverage.py (Python), and Jest/Istanbul (React) are effectively integrated into CI/CD workflows.
Provide guidance to developers on writing effective unit tests to improve code coverage metrics.
API Testing
Lead the design & implementation of comprehensive API testing strategies, including functional, integration and contract testing to ensure reliability, backward compatibility and seamless interservice communication.
Enhance & expand automated API testing to ensure robust and reliable backend services leveraging tools such as Postman and other industry standard solutions.
Develop and document API testing best practices for the engineering organization.
CI and Workflow Integration
Integrate tools and frameworks into CI pipelines to automate quality checks, reporting, and workflow optimizations.
Use Jira to track tool integration efforts, test case management, and developer workflows.
Collaboration and Leadership
Collaborate with engineering, QA, and DevOps teams to define quality goals and align tools with organizational needs.
Lead by example through hands-on implementation, technical mentorship, and fostering a culture of quality.
Continuously evaluate and recommend new tools or processes to further enhance software quality and efficiency.
Provide hands on mentorship and coaching to engineers promoting industry best practices in coding, conducting thorough code reviews and driving adoption of higher coding standards.
About You
7+ years of experience in Quality Engineering, Software Development, or Test Automation.
2+ years of experience in technical leadership type roles.
4+ years of hands-on test automation skills leveraging Python, Typescript, or Javascript.
Proven expertise in implementing and optimizing SonarQube Enterprise Edition and SonarQube IDE, including advanced features such as Quality Gates, rule customization, and developer training.
Strong experience with test automation tools and frameworks, including Playwright for front-end testing and Postman for API testing.
Expertise in code coverage and unit test coverage tools for Python (e.g., Coverage.py), Golang (e.g., GoCover), and React (e.g., Jest, Istanbul).
Experience with test case management tools such as XRay, Zephyr, or TestRail.
Test automation experience with programming languages such as Python, TypeScript, or JavaScript.
Experience integrating testing tools into CI/CD pipelines.
Proficiency in using Jira for tracking quality-related workflows and tool configurations.
Familiarity with Agile/Scrum development methodologies.
Experience with performance testing or security testing tools.
Prior experience working in a DevOps or DevSecOps environment.
