POSITION SUMMARY:  Responsible for integrating industry instrumentation and control (I&C) engineering and cyber security principles into the development of the NuScale design.  Applies comprehensive knowledge of engineering principles, techniques, and practices and has broad knowledge of industry standards, codes, and regulations. Performs functions necessary to inform the NuScale design from a cyber-security perspective. Evaluates the cyber security requirements and ensure operational program support the implementation.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Works under technical direction toward long-range goals and objectives.  Exercises wide latitude in determining objectives and approaches to critical assignments.  Collaborates with team members to drive to consensus on solutions and ensures deliverables are of high quality.
  2. Regularly interacts with management and other organizations on matters requiring coordination across organizational lines.  Prepares and presents technical information concerning NuScale projects to the NRC, potential customers, and other stakeholders on behalf of NuScale.
  3. Performs or coordinates special studies, analysis, and design decisions to address unique operational and design related issues as they arise.  Where appropriate, develops cost estimates to support appropriate studies, analyses and design decision alternatives.
  4. Provides resolution for complex problems using professional operational principles and company objectives to resolve unique situations.
  5. Interfaces with customers and the NRC in order to support the marketing and licensing of the NuScale plant.
  6. Performs design reviews to ensure the NuScale reference plant can be operated and maintained in a safe and efficient manner.
  7. Develops programmatic and operational procedures needed for routine operations, maintenance and surveillances, incident response, and reporting.
  8. Develops training material needed to ensure future plant operators can operate the NuScale power plant in a safe and efficient manner.
  9. Possesses a strong working knowledge of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s cyber security rule (10 CFR 73.54), North American Electric Reliability Corporation Critical Infrastructure Protection (NERC-CIP) standards, Nuclear Energy Institute’s NEI 08-09, and Electric Power Research Institute’s Technical Assessment Methodology.
  10. Understands and applies expert level knowledge of nuclear power plant control and monitoring systems and cyber security best practices to support NuScale reference plant development.
  11. Performs cyber security assessments of digital I&C systems and components to determine appropriate security control measures to be applied.
  12. Performs other duties as assigned from the Program Manager of Nuclear Security and Emergency Preparedness.

  • Quality Assurance:  Commits to the understanding and implementation of quality assurance regulations, standards and guidelines of 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, 10 CFR 21, and NQA-1.

 

 

MINIMUM SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS AND ABILITIES:

  • Education:  Minimum of a B.S. degree in computer science, information technology, cyber security, or engineering degrees from a four-year accredited college or university is required. Alternatively, candidates with 4 additional years (12 years total) of directly applicable experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Experience: A minimum of 8 years of experience in the cyber security or digital control systems is required. Strong working knowledge of Nuclear Regulatory Commission and North American Electric Reliability Corporation cyber security regulations and guidance required. Experience performing cyber security assessments using the Electric Power Research Institute’s Technical Assessment Methodology is highly desirable. Experience in I&C maintenance and testing is preferred.
  • Industry Requirements:  Eligible to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810.

Pay and Benefits: 

The target pay range for this position is $124,400 - $150,138 annually.  The full pay range is $111,531 - $174,446 annually.
