About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking a Director of Risk and Compliance Platform Engineering to lead the engineering and operations of a secure, scalable, and resilient platform that underpins the company’s risk and compliance capabilities.

This is a high-impact leadership role, ideal for a technically proficient and analytically minded professional who thrives at the intersection of platform engineering, cybersecurity, data systems, and regulatory compliance. In this role, you will guide a skilled team of engineers and managers, fostering collaboration across security, technology, and business units to deliver core services that strengthen Wells Fargo’s risk and compliance posture.


In this role, you will:

  • Manage, coach, and develop experienced engineers and engineering managers responsible for building secure and scalable risk and compliance platforms.
  • Ensure architecture alignment with Wells Fargo's platform, infrastructure, and cloud strategies, meeting non-functional requirements such as performance, observability, and security.
  • Partner with enterprise architects and domain experts to drive modernization of risk and compliance systems, enabling cloud readiness, infrastructure-as-code, and application resilience.
  • Serve as the technical lead across multiple platform initiatives, ensuring cohesion, efficiency, and engineering excellence.
  • Identify and recommend solutions to overcome technical roadblocks, improve system reliability, and accelerate delivery across the full software development lifecycle.
  • Remove impediments and promote a learning culture grounded in agile and DevSecOps principles.
  • Provide technical guidance through code reviews, architectural reviews, and hands-on mentorship, ensuring adherence to best practices and platform standards.
  • Design for and ensure the stability, scalability, and security of critical systems; lead efforts to proactively mitigate technology and operational risks.
  • Collaborate with Product Owners to translate business needs into technical requirements, influence roadmap prioritization, and advocate for secure, compliant, and modern solutions.
  • Engage with third-party vendors and partners to evaluate and integrate best-of-breed technology solutions for compliance automation, threat detection, and policy enforcement.
  • Manage resources, budgets, and strategic deliverables aligned with business goals and enterprise engineering strategy.
  • Hire and develop talent, promoting a culture of continuous learning, innovation, and belonging.


Required Qualifications:

  • Experience in Software Engineering, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education.
  • Management or leadership experience.
  • Experience in Security, software or platform engineering, or equivalent demonstrated through a combination of work experience, training, military experience, or education.
  • Experience of management or leadership experience, including managing engineering teams or platforms at scale.
  • Proven experience in building and operating platforms or services in highly regulated environments (e.g., financial services, telco, or healthcare).
  • Deep technical expertise in distributed systems, cloud-native architectures, and secure development lifecycle.


Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience with security and compliance tooling, such as threat intelligence platforms, detection pipelines, or audit and policy automation.
  • Strong programming background in Python, Java, or Go, and familiarity with CI/CD, DevSecOps, and Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform, Env0, GitLab, GitHub, Azure DevOps).
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and cloud security best practices.
  • Familiarity with risk, compliance, or cybersecurity/resilience regulations and frameworks (e.g., SOX, FFIEC, DORA, NIST, ISO 27001).
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills, with a strong track record of cross-functional collaboration.
  • Experience contributing to or leading open-source security or infrastructure tools is a plus.
