What You’ll Do

The IT Compliance Specialist ensures that Freeman Health System’s information technology practices align with HIPAA, the NIST Cybersecurity Framework, NIST 800-53, and other applicable laws and regulations. This role is responsible for assessing IT architecture and processes to ensure the protection, reliability, and compliance of information assets, while also providing reporting, guidance, and project planning across IT and other departments. The specialist collaborates with third parties to conduct vendor risk assessments and contributes to the development of system and group policies, procedures, and knowledge base documentation related to compliance and cybersecurity.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct IT compliance reviews and audits to assess systems, controls, and procedures for accuracy and regulatory alignment.

  • Monitor and interpret changes in industry regulations (e.g., HIPAA, NIST 800-53, NIST-CSF) to ensure ongoing compliance.

  • Evaluate IT and security operations to identify gaps and recommend improvements.

  • Develop and maintain compliance documentation, including policies, procedures, and controls.

  • Collaborate with departments to address compliance issues and implement corrective actions.

  • Provide vendor and third-party risk assessments and reporting.

  • Support policy and process development with the Information Security Officer.

  • Deliver compliance training and guidance to staff.

  • Communicate compliance status and audit findings to management and stakeholders.

  • Document audit procedures and findings clearly and accurately.

  • Assist internal and external auditors and follow up on remediation efforts.

  • Participate in compliance-related projects and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Demonstrate working knowledge of ISO 27001, HIPAA, and NIST frameworks.

  • Communicate effectively across teams and levels of the organization.

  • Work independently with strong critical thinking and minimal supervision.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field, or 4 years of experience in a related field (Compliance, Cyber Security, Information Technology) 

  • Ability to travel to other facilities 


Preferred Requirements

  • Audit, Compliance and/or Security certification(s) such as CISA, CISM, CGEIT, CISSP and/or equivalent experience are highly desired.
