About the Role
We are looking for a skilled and motivated Trade Compliance Manager to join our team onsite at our San Diego office. Reporting to the Director of Operations, you will be at the forefront of shaping and executing our trade compliance strategy, ensuring strict adherence to ITAR, EAR, and other export control regulations. You will work closely with internal teams and regulatory agencies to manage our Export Management Compliance Programs (EMCP) and ITAR Compliance Programs (ICP), driving excellence in compliance across the organization. This is an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful impact, & directly influence our compliance posture, while supporting the company’s success in a regulated environment.This position is required to be on-site daily in the San Diego, CA office.
What You’ll Do
- Develop, implement, and maintain trade policies, standards, and procedures to ensure compliance with Department of State, Department of Commerce, and Department of Treasury regulations.
- Collaborate with the ISSO to ensure proper protection and management of controlled information.
- Establish, manage, and maintain the company’s Export Management Control Policy (EMCP) in alignment with Directorate of Defense Trade Controls (DDTC) requirements.
- Define, conduct, and oversee regular trade compliance audits and investigations to identify and mitigate potential risks and exposures.
- Determine classification and licensing requirements based on applicable government regulations (e.g., ITAR, EAR), and apply for necessary licenses through the relevant government systems (DECCS, SNAP-R, etc.).
- Perform and maintain records for restricted party screenings.
- Identify and communicate export compliance best practices, ensuring Firestorm employees are well-informed.
- Design and deliver tailored export control and global trade compliance training programs for both internal and external stakeholders.
- Provide training and awareness programs to educate employees on information security policies, procedures, best practices, and proper handling of classified information.
- Stay up to date with evolving regulatory requirements, emerging threats, and industry best practices to enhance the company’s trade compliance posture.
- Collaborate with ISSO, IT, and engineering teams to ensure secure system architectures and robust data protection measures for systems processing controlled information.
- Must be willing to travel up to 10%
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, International Trade, Finance or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience managing U.S. import/export compliance directly.
- Comprehensive knowledge of U.S. regulations governing export-controlled items.
- In-depth expertise in the U.S. Munitions List (USML), Export Control Classification Number (ECCN), deemed exports, Export Administration Regulations (EAR), and the Commerce Control List (CCL).
- Hands-on experience with DDTC licensing applications (e.g., DSP-5, TAA, MLA).
- Proven track record in developing and implementing export control programs, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
- Strong understanding of risk management principles, with experience conducting risk assessments and managing vulnerabilities, including those in classified environments.
- Demonstrated experience in incident response planning and execution, particularly in relation to controlled information.
- Must be a U.S. Person due to the nature of work & required access to U.S. export-controlled information
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certifications such as Certified Export Compliance Professional (CECP) or Licensed Customs Broker (LCB).
- Experience managing compliance with U.S. and international sanctions programs (e.g., OFAC, UN).
- Strong project management skills, with the ability to lead complex compliance initiatives from start to finish.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively explain trade compliance regulations to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Proven ability to adapt to rapidly changing regulatory environments and evolving operational demands, with a track record of adjusting compliance strategies effectively.
- Strong understanding of trade compliance regulations and demonstrated experience in navigating regulatory changes to ensure continuous compliance with both domestic and international laws.
- Demonstrated experience in cross-functional collaboration, to ensure compliance across the business.
Compensation
US Salary Range: $115,000 - $150,000 USD The posted salary range reflects an estimate based on a variety of compensation factors, including but not limited to relevant experience, education, certifications, specialized skills, geographic location, and business needs.
