Job Description for Deputy Head of Secondary
Accountable to: Head of Secondary
Accountable for: Selected Heads of Faculty and Secondary teachers
KEY PURPOSES
SUPPORTING ACTIONS
SUCCESS MEASURES
To assist the HOS with the Leadership and management of the secondary school, its staff and students
To Assist the HOS with
- Determination of job specifications, selection of candidates, interviewing and appointments.
- Professional review and development in the secondary school.
- Managing issues related to staff discipline and competence.
- Effectively leading management groups within the secondary school
- Development and review of policies.
- Leading school assemblies, staff meetings and meetings with parents.
- Interventions in pastoral support matters as required.
- And in the event of absence acting on his/her behalf.
● Effective resolution of staff disciplinary and competency issues
● APR process completed and results of staff survey on its effectiveness
● Instances of personal leadership and intervention
● Policy and procedures appropriate and up to date.
● High levels of student support and well being.
To assist the HOS with the provision of a high quality secondary educational programme
To assist the HOS with
- Determination of the curriculum and its review.
- Oversight of the monitoring of teaching & learning and taking steps to improve it.
- Data tracking and analysis.
- Oversight of student progress, introducing interventions and support where appropriate
- Encouraging the organisation of meaningful educational visits and out-of-school activities
● Overall quality and consistency of teaching and learning
● Successful student progress and Examination results.
● Programme of educational visits and activities
● Regular Progress reviews and actions are in place.
To assist the HOS in ensuring high standards of student achievement
To assist the HOS with
- Making appropriate use of standardised testing.
- Analysis of results of external assessment and actions arising from such analysis.
- Policy and procedures for assessment.
● Assessment policy and its application
● Standardised test results and how these are used
● Analyses of external assessment and how these are used
To assist the HOS with effective communicating with parents both individually and collectively
To assist the HOS with
- Procedures for reports and parent consultation meetings.
- Effective use of school bulletins, newsletter, website, FROG, iSAMS and other forms of communication in promoting the secondary school.
- Ensuring parents have effective means of communicating with the school and having any concerns addressed.
● Quality of school reports, newsletters and entries on website.
● Attendance and feedback from Parent consultation evenings.
● Parent survey and questionnaire responses
