Cuyamaca College invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Computer and Information Science/Cybersecurity Instructor to join our dynamic face-to-face, on campus Computer and Information Science Department. This position focuses on providing high-quality education in CIS and Cybersecurity and fostering a learning environment centered on equity and inclusion.

Interested candidates should also be passionate about participating in departmental and college-wide initiatives aimed at improving access and success for all students. This includes developing work-based learning opportunities that inspire students to choose diverse career pathways in STEM. The candidate should have a commitment to build on Cuyamaca College’s mission, vision and values by participating in committees and shared governance.

The Cuyamaca College Computer and Information Science Department is dedicated to fostering academic excellence, innovation, and equity-minded practices to meet the needs of our students and the community. We are seeking a passionate expert to play a pivotal part in creating this inclusive educational experience for our diverse student population.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under administrative leadership, it is the responsibility of the regular/contract college instructor to participate in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of educational programs, courses, and other experiences that will directly result in the educational growth of the students and support advancement of the visions, missions, and values of the colleges and District.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: APPLICANTS MUST MEET ONE OF THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA:
Any Bachelor’s Degree and two years of professional experience, OR

Any Associate’s Degree and six years of professional experience, OR

The equivalent

NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience and proficiency in teaching or training preferably at the college level, and in the computer field, using a variety of instructional methods explaining complex topics to diverse learners.

  • At least one of the following:  

  • a. Degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.

  • b. Industry certification, such as CCIS, CompTIA Security+, CISSP, CEH, OWASP

  • c. Experience with Cisco Networking Academy, CyberOps, or CompTIA Academy programs.

  • d. Virtualization (VMware vSphere, Microsoft Hyper-V, Proxmox) or Virtual Lab environment (Netlabs)

  • e. Familiarity with SIEM tools, firewalls, IDS/IPS, cloud security

  • f. Data Center (NAS, SAN, DAS) 

  • Written and oral communication skills to effectively interact with students, staff members, co-workers and corporate advisors.

  • Interpersonal communication skills necessary to interact effectively with students, co-workers, industry leaders and administrators.

  • Demonstrated commitment to remain current on issues within the industry and education.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in Cybersecurity, Information Assurance, or Computer Science.

  • At least two years of professional experience in cybersecurity or a closely related IT field.

  • Ability to teach online using modern LMS platforms (e.g., Canvas, Blackboard).

  • Participation in professional development training and/or industry-based certifications.

  • Experience that demonstrates successful, active participation in community and/or professional organizations and institutions of higher education.

  • Curriculum planning, program development and leadership abilities.

  • Commitment to the philosophy of the community college.

  • Sensitivity to the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
