Please note this role will work in a hybrid environment. The successful candidate must be located near a Canadian Blood Services site and will be working a mixture of on-site and off-site work based on the parameters for our operations to meet the needs of our donors, our staff and our communities. Currently, employees are expected to have an in-person presence for at least 40% of their work time. This requirement may vary depending upon circumstances.

About the role

Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Regular Full-Time IT Security Compliance Specialist to join our dynamic IT Strategy & Governance team.

The IT Strategy & Governance team is responsible for ensuring that Canadian Blood Service's technology resources are used effectively and align with its overall business goals.


Reporting to the Associate Director of IT Security Risk & Compliance, you will be responsible for researching, analyzing, defining, recommending, developing/configuring audit and compliance documentation, as well as supporting audit and compliance tools. You will lead all IT security audit and compliance efforts and work collaboratively with key Canadian Blood Services internal and external stakeholders to ensure Canadian Blood Services remains in full compliance with federal and provincial regulatory requirements.


Formula for sucess

  • Leveraging your skills in regulatory compliance, you will ensure that IT Security processes follow regulatory compliance practices.
  • Applying your understanding of internal processes, you will follow and contribute to the appropriate guidelines of the IT security request process.
  • Serving as a trusted liaison, you will act as the prime point of contact for CBS Internal Audit and external audit partners, including Health Canada.
  • Utilizing your relationship management skills, you will be the prime point of contact for CBS Legal and CBS Privacy in both regular communications, such as the bi-monthly session, and also respond to ad-hoc requests for assistance.
  • Collaborating with external stakeholders, you will, when necessary, engage with security and privacy officers from outside CBS to provide timely information, this includes federal and provincial security and privacy officers and the Alliance of Blood Operators (ABO) security and privacy officers.
  • Demonstrating your ability to manage vendor tools, you will ensure third-party security assessment tools are managed appropriately.
  • Engaging in strategic governance, you will participate actively in the cloud governance committee, highlighting areas of security concern.
  • Expanding your expertise in emerging technologies, you will join and participate in the AI governance activities at CBS and acquire and become familiar with key cloud and AI standards, both Canadian-based and international, such as ISO.

 

Desired education and skills

  • Post secondary level education in a relevant discipline from a recognized academic institution, preferably a University Degree in Computer Science with Business Process Engineering or Business Administration (preferably with a focus on Information Management Systems).
  • A CISSP, CISM or CISA Security certification is required.
  • At least three years of relevant information security work experience, preferably with demonstrable audit management experience.
  • Excellent problem-solving and strategic thinking skills are required.
  • Excellent skills on problem analysis, planning and organizing are required.
  • Strong effective leadership, excellent interpersonal and strong communication skills in English are essential.
  • Good Business Acumen and sound judgement.

What you can expect 

  • This role will work in a hybrid environment with requirements to be onsite at a Canadian Blood Services location 40% of the time/2 days of the week.
  • You will work Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week, 7.5 hours per day.  
  • If you are located outside of Ottawa, you may be expected to travel to our office location in Ottawa – 2540 Lancaster Rd, Ottawa, Ontario, quarterly for in-person team meetings when required.
