Job Description:
We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our IT Security team as a summer intern. As an Informationo Technology / Operational Technology (IT/OT) Security intern, you will have the opportunity to gain practical experience in various areas of IT security, such as OT network security, industrial control systems communication, regulatory compliance and network/application administration. You will work onsite under the guidance of experienced professionals and contribute to ongoing projects, as well as participate in the execution of new initiatives. The goal of this internship is to provide you with a comprehensive understanding of the day-to-day operations of a role focused on OT and industrial controls security while helping you develop your technical and interpersonal skills.
Key Responsibilities:
Review Digital Innovation (DI) and Controls Innovation Lab setup documentation, update pricing on Bills of Material (BOMs), check set-up and how-to documents, and assist with documentation of lab equipment. Work with team members to develop Access Control Lists (ACLs), routing configurations and firewalling rules in the TailScale VPN system for the security of DI labs. Research specifics of new European Union (EU) regulations, including specifics of Software Bill of Materials (SBOM) requirements, and research/identify tooling for creating SBOMs that will integrate with existing engineering software systems. Document specific feature sets of OT security devices available from our current controls component vendors, and research new security devices for Industrial Control System (ICS) network segmentation and traffic control from alternative sources. The goal will be to provide controls engineers with part numbers and device capability information. Collect best practice documents on specific sections of existing ICS security policies, including how to conduct an equipment-focused OT cybersecurity assessments, how to perform cryptographic signing of communications protocols in an OT setting, and similar opportunities to enhance ICS security. Assist with a project on standardizing and securing Virtual Machines, integrating results of a user survey with equipment support requirements and security hardening steps. Review equipment security policies to identify gaps or inconsistencies between those policies and the requirements of EU regulations, such as the Cyber Resiliency Act, the Artificial Intelligence Act, the Data Act, and the Machine Regulation. Research regulations in other countries that BW delivers equipment to, which BW must comply with. Create a tracking system with progress goals for our Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) software teams to align cloud environment development with tracked deviations from a security compliance reporting system (ISO 27001, others as identified). Assist in drafting internally facing documentation for manufacturing divisions on requirements for secure interaction of customer side equipment with our cloud Industrial Internet of Things (IioT) environment. Assist in drafting similar security documents with customers as the intended audience, discussing the secure interaction of BW equipment with our cloud systems and new digital products and services.
Qualifications:
- Pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Industrial Network Technology, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Positive attitude and eagerness to learn.
Duration:
This is a full-time summer internship that will last for approximately 10-12 weeks, with the possibility of extension based on performance and business needs.
Compensation:
Compensation for this internship will be based on experience and qualifications. This is a paid internship.
Location:
This position requires being in the office up to 5 days per week at the Barry-Wehmiller Corporate Campus located in Clayton, Missouri. Remote work may be allowed for up to 2 days per week.
