🏱 Location & Work Mode:

  • Greece 
  • This is a full-time, 6-month contract role, with a strong chance of transitioning to a permanent position based on the successful outcome of the internship.
  • When hiring in Greece, we’re open to candidates from all locations. Those based within 55 km of our Athens office will follow a hybrid work model (2/week work from the office). For candidates located beyond that radius, a fully remote arrangement is available.
  • Eligibility: This internship is best suited for students in their final year of studies or recent graduates with up to 2 years of professional experience, as they are likely to benefit the most from this opportunity.

✹The core mission of the Software Engineer Intern

As a Software Engineering Intern at Hack The Box, your mission is to help shape and expand our CTF platform—a cornerstone of our hacker-powered community. Over the next 6 months (Sept 25 - Feb 26), you’ll contribute to meaningful product development that reaches thousands of users, while developing core engineering skills and mindset. 

We’re offering two internship tracks depending on your skills and interests:

  • Frontend Intern (Vue.js)  
  • Backend Intern (Laravel/PHP)

Either path will give you real experience building production-level features while learning directly from experienced engineers. 

🎯 By the end of your internship, you’ll have shipped code that matters, real features on a high-visibility product used by tens of thousands of hackers. You’ll gain hands-on experience in either Vue.js (Frontend) or Laravel PHP (Backend), depending on your focus.

If everything aligns, this internship has the potential to turn into a full-time position on Hack The Box’s software engineering team. For this reason, it's an ideal opportunity for students in their final year of studies. 

đŸș The fellowship you’ll be joining:

You’ll join the Events team, a tight-knit squad made up of:

  • 4 Software Engineers (2 frontend & 2 backend)
  • 1 Product Owner
  • 1 QA Engineer
  • 1 Product Designer

We work closely with teams across Product, Infrastructure, and Community to bring CTF events to life. From internal launches to global competitions.

⚔ Technology tools & weapons you’ll be using:

Depending on your focus, you’ll work with tools like:

  • Frontend Intern Path: Vue.js (JavaScript/TypeScript), Vuetify, HTML/CSS, Figma, Vitest (for testing)
  • Backend Intern Path: Laravel (PHP), MySQL, REST APIs, Postman, PHPUnit (for testing)

Other shared tools: Docker, GitHub, Jira, GitHub Actions

  • Advanced familiarity with one programming language (ideal case: Vue.js/JavaScript or Laravel/PHP)
  • A passion for learning and building real-world applications
  • Understanding of Git and version control basics
  • Comfortable asking questions and collaborating in a team
  • Strong attention to detail and curiosity
  • Studies in a relevant field (Computer Science etc.)
  • Bonus point: Interest in CTFs, cybersecurity, or ethical hacking!

đŸ—ș The Quest of Becoming Hack The Box’s Software Engineering Intern: 

  • Level 1: To complete level one’s objective, submit your application (this job opportunity will be receiving applications until the 11th of June)
  • Level 2: Complete an online standardized competency assessment
  • Level 3: Meet the Talent Acquisition team. Level’s objective: highlight your achievements, ambitions, and values. (estimated dates: 16- 27th of June 2025, please, make sure you’ll be available to connect during those dates). Important Note: Level Three will be unlocked based on a holistic review of the available information, including the candidate’s CV, GitHub account, Hack The Box account, and performance in the online competency assessment.
  • Level 4: Meet the hiring team. Level’s objective: connect with the hiring team and share with them your achievements. (estimated dates: 23 June - 4 July 2025, please, make sure you’ll be available to connect during those dates)
  • Level 5: You've officially received an offer from HTB! To complete the last level and the Quest, all you need to do is accept the offer.
