About the role
The Senior Information Security Analyst is responsible for enhancing the university’s cybersecurity posture by implementing, monitoring, and improving security measures to protect critical information assets. This role includes conducting security assessments, responding to threats, managing third-party security risks, and ensuring compliance with relevant frameworks and regulations.
Working closely with internal teams and external partners, including a managed Security Operations Center (SOC), the Senior Information Security Analyst plays a key role in strengthening the university’s security resilience and is critical to maintaining a secure digital environment, supporting the university’s strategic goals, and ensuring the protection of sensitive data and IT infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the managed SOC to ensure effective threat detection, response, remediation and proactive threat-hunting activities.
- Analyse security alerts, incidents, conduct investigations, coordinate responses and ensure timely patching and mitigation of known exploits and emerging threats.
- Act as a key escalation point for critical security incidents, ensuring coordination between IT, legal, risk, and executive teams.
- Lead post-incident reviews and forensic analysis to strengthen security controls and response strategies.
- Develop and oversee a penetration testing program, including regular vulnerability assessments with both in-house teams and external security partners and lead red and blue team exercises to assess and enhance the university’s cyber resilience.
- Identify, analyse, and prioritise remediation of security vulnerabilities across cloud and on-prem environments.
- Collaborate with procurement and legal teams to develop and ensure appropriate cybersecurity clauses are included in vendor agreements, contracts and service agreements
Qualifications, skills & experience
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Security, or a related field.
- 4 - 5 years of experience in cybersecurity roles, preferably within higher education or large enterprise environments.
- Demonstrated experience with Microsoft security solutions, including Microsoft Defender, Microsoft Sentinel, and Azure Security Center.
- Relevant cybersecurity certifications desirable (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Security Operations Analyst Associate (SC-200) GIAC Penetration Tester (GPEN), ISACA Certified Information Security Auditor (CISA)
