We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced individual to take on the role of Manager, Global Payroll Tax and Compliance at Ziff Davis. This critical position will be responsible for leading our domestic payroll tax functions, reporting directly to the Vice-President of Global Payroll. The ideal candidate will ensure the accuracy and timeliness of payroll tax operations, primarily focusing on the United States while also overseeing activities in the EMEA, APAC, and LATAM regions. Key responsibilities include managing tax filings for federal, state, and local payroll taxes and ensuring compliance with all relevant regulatory requirements on a global scale.In addition to tax compliance, this role will provide support for employee mobility tax issues, handle relocation data, collaborate with the Stock team on equity wage and tax reporting, and work with the Retirement Benefits team to administer retirement programs such as 401(k) and Deferred Compensation plans. The Manager will also oversee tax registrations for new local setups, mergers, acquisitions, restructurings and any new entity setups.We are looking for a proactive and independent thinker with expertise in employment tax analysis, capable of analyzing large volumes of data from diverse sources to ensure global payroll compliance.Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead and manage global payroll tax compliance, ensuring adherence to federal, state, local, and international regulations.
  • Administer equity, mobility, and retirement programs accurately from a tax perspective.
  • Reconcile all tax filings to confirm accuracy and compliance.
  • Oversee the accurate and timely filing of all payroll tax returns, including federal, state, local, and international taxes, and year-end reporting (e.g., W-2s and equivalent international equivalents).
  • Manage payroll tax audits, including internal and external audits, and ensure timely resolution of audit issues.
  • Remain informed about payroll tax regulations, tax law changes, and industry best practices globally, and communicate updates to relevant stakeholders.
  • Review payroll tax processes to ensure correct application of withholding taxes, garnishments, and other deductions.
  • Collaborate with teams across Corporate Tax, Finance, and Legal to resolve payroll tax issues and streamline processes.
  • Provide expert guidance on tax-related matters to the payroll team.
  • Support the future integration of new payroll systems or technologies to improve payroll tax operations.
  • Responsible for tax-related reporting, filings, and payments, ensuring compliance with deadlines and accuracy.
  • Assist with payroll tax implications during mergers, acquisitions, and restructurings.
  • Liaise with external payroll providers, tax advisors, and government agencies worldwide as necessary.
  • Ensure timely processing of 401(k) payments.
  • Develop and maintain payroll tax procedures, job aids, and employee documentation.
Job Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in payroll tax management.
  • In-depth knowledge of federal, state, local, and international payroll tax laws and regulations.
  • Proven experience managing payroll tax audits and resolving complex payroll tax issues.
  • Strong understanding of stock/equity compensation plans in a globally mobile environment.
  • Extensive experience with year-end reporting, compensation collection, and tax clearance reporting.
  • Familiarity with mobility tax issues, including double taxation, foreign tax credits, income tax treaties, certificates of coverage, and tax equalization agreements.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and a strong commitment to compliance and accuracy.
  • Proficiency in payroll software, Microsoft Excel, and Google Sheets; experience with platforms like ADP Workforce Now, ADP Global View, Activpayroll, Ceridian, or similar software is highly desirable.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate across diverse functions and cultural backgrounds.

Factors that may be used to determine your actual pay may include your specific job related knowledge, skills, experience, and geographic location. The base pay for this position ranges from $100,000 to $115,000, 401K with company match, medical, dental, vision, and life insurance, short and long-term disability, and a flexible time off policy.Ziff Davis is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
