The Senior IAM Security Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, operating, and improving identity and access management (IAM) technologies and practices. This role, as a member of the Identity and Access Management team, manages enterprise authentication systems while balancing security and usability. The Senior IAM Security Engineer leads enterprise web single sign-on (SSO) and multifactor authentication (MFA) services, acts as a subject matter expert for authentication and authorization practices, and supports complex projects. This position involves monitoring and analyzing data to resolve complex technical or security incidents. Strong partnerships with key university stakeholders are essential to successfully integrating Web SSO and MFA services with internal and external applications and systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Program Development and Delivery:  Develops and implements strategies to enhance enterprise authentication services, ensuring alignment with the organizational goals.  Partners with IAM teams to deliver foundational security programs focused on access controls, balancing risk and usability.
  • Service Oversight: Ensures the availability and reliability of services, with clear performance expectations and published metrics.
  • Operational Excellence: Designs and operates incident and request processes to meet service level commitments and respond effectively and efficiently to service disruptions.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Represents Identity and Access Management teams, strategies, and services to department leaders and university stakeholders.  Builds positive relationships that deliver strategic solutions prioritizing the university’s mission, values, and strategic objectives.  Represents the university to external partners and constituents.
  • Roadmap Development: Develops and maintains long-term roadmaps for enterprise authentication services, aligning with Digital Security and Trust’s strategic objectives.

Required Qualifications:

  • 6 years of experience leading Identity and Access Management (IAM) service delivery in dynamic and complex environments.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education & experience.
  • Proficient in information security and identity and access management concepts and controls (e.g., ISO 27001, NIST 800-63).

Desired Qualifications:

  • 8-12 years of experience leading large-scale enterprise Identity and Access Management (IAM) teams in dynamic and complex environments.
  • Advanced degree in a related field.
  • Experience in higher education or a similar environment.
  • CISSP, CRISC, CISA or other relevant information security certification.
  • Experience leading an enterprise single sign-on service.
  • Experience leading an enterprise multi-factor authentication service.
  • Proficient in IAM technologies and protocols, including SSO, MFA, Federation, PAM, OIDC, OAuth, SAML, and SCIM.

This position maps to Information Technology, Information Security and Risk Management, and Individual Contributor – Specialized, S4 Consultant.

Additional Information:

The Targeted Hiring Range for this position is $102,000-$112,000.
