Job Description:

Job purpose 

Please provide a summary of the purpose and objective of the job. 

The Security Operations Lead, Asia, will report to the Physical Security Operations Manager. They will work with internal and contract team members to contribute to a best-in-class physical security program that consists of systems, policies, and procedures with the objective of increasing company security adherence, awareness, creating a safe working environment, and remaining compliant with applicable regulatory bodies. This position will play a crucial role in the execution of our program strategy, which includes addressing the convergence of physical and cyber security challenges and leveraging technological advancements in threat mitigation. It aligns directly with Sun Life's broader initiative to become a fully digitalized enterprise, reinforcing our commitment to staying ahead in the digital landscape. This position will also provide support with incident response coordination and management of physical events specific to the Asia region, incident investigations and the use of technology and applications and relationship building across the Asia region. This position will also have responsibility for coordination and execution of initiatives and projects related to the Global Security Operations Center (GSOC), including the continued evolution of the program. 

This role will also collaborate with a team of professionals whose mandate is to develop, implement and supervise support services, emergency response and other process documentation, as well as plan and execute on operational physical security and incident investigation requirements. This includes contributing to effective security risk management programs, investigation and intelligence programs, security system solutions, providing special event and personnel protection services, as well as delivering advice, direction, and education. 

This position may interact with senior management at the Corporate and Business Group level, peers within Corporate Compliance, Information Security, Risk & Governance, Crisis Management, Business Continuity, Real Estate and Human Resources in the delivery of physical security and emergency response services related to both security and criminal incidents.  This position will interface directly with external government, security, law enforcement and emergency services officials. 

 

 

Major accountabilities

Relationship and rapport building with local / regional contacts and the various business groups to help evolve reporting and metrics and incident reporting and management. This includes collaborating with regional cyber security and information technology professionals to enhance our capacity for providing comprehensive support in response to such incidents.

Main point of contact and support, in addition to the GSOC, for responding to and managing incident tickets specific to Asia.

Coordination and execution of strategic initiatives and projects, mostly related to the PSOC program, to assist with the program’s continued evolution.

Directly support the team with the ongoing coordination of internal communication campaigns (projects, large initiatives, educational campaigns, etc.).

Provide on-site support for Sun Life sponsored events on an as-needed basis. 

Assist with the completion of threat and risk assessments (TRA) across the Asia region, on an as-needed basis. Also responsible for coordinating the closure of TRA findings specific to Security Operations. 

Support physical security investigations which pose a risk to Sun Life. Maintain awareness, and report on, Sun Life's physical threat landscape and risk exposure, including events that may impact Sun Life directly or indirectly.

Specialized knowledge

  • Works in tandem with PSOC personnel (a combination of internal and contract staff) and North American PSCM leadership that requires critical thinking and an inquisitive mindset. 

  • Effective and confident verbal and written communication and relationship building skills. These skills will be used to work with local business partners to enhance the incident management and event reporting processes across the Asia region. 

  • Ability to analyze and present data using a variety of tools and techniques in the areas of business analysis and business intelligence principles to create executive dashboards and reports.  

 

Education and experience 

Indicate the minimum education level and years of relevant experience required to perform the work.  Include specific professional designations, licenses, registrations, if applicable. 

  • 5 - 10 years of experience within physical security operations (including coordination and management of personnel), corporate security, risk management department or information security. 

  • Degree or diploma relatable to physical / corporate security, information security, investigations, or risk management, or comparable professional education/training in a field relevant to security or investigation management. 

  • Professional designation preferred in security management: Associate Protection Professional (APP), Certified Protection Professional (CPP), Physical Security Professional (PSP), CompTIA Security+, Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Certified Information Security Manager (CISM), or similar. 

  • Experience within a physical security or information technology department for a similar organization of comparable size and complexity to Sun Life. 

  • Proficient with communicating and managing change, as well as continuous improvement strategies for physical security program through similar organizations.  

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously while maintaining quality and exceeding our client expectations. 

  • Must be able to work independently and in a team setting.

  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with key business leaders to promote program priorities, communicate value, and ensure that the quality of services provided meet objectives.

  • Works with internal mid-level and senior management on the execution of program priorities, as well as training requirements. 

  • Works with PSOC personnel, external compliance, security and law enforcement agencies on audits, investigations, and process improvement activities.
