Purpose of the role:

The purpose of this role is to provide oversight into the world of cyber security at ii and provide first line cyber security support in our SecOps Team. The apprenticeship will provide experience in all aspects of Information Security.

You will be required to monitor and detect security threats from our SIEM solution under supervision and follow procedure, escalating where necessary in order to support SecOps.

In your daily work, you will be required to interact with a wide range of stakeholders including colleagues, managers, and internal and external suppliers. You will gain exposure and experience to a number of leading cyber security tools as well as cyber security process and procedure around policy, standards, patching, vulnerability management, risk management and pen testing.

This role can be based in either Manchester or Leeds.

Requirements

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide daily support to the SecOps team

• Monitor, identify, report and escalate information security incidents and events in accordance with relevant procedures and standards

• Contribute to routine threat intelligence gathering tasks

• Collaborate with people both internally and externally to support secure and uninterrupted business operations of the organisation

• Monitor and detect potential security threats and escalate in accordance with relevant procedures and standards

• Perform cyber security compliance checks

• Contribute to the security awareness program of work and help build a security culture throughout the business

• Testing the compliance and effectiveness of security controls

• Practice continuous self-learning to keep up to date with industry trends and developments to enhance relevant skills and take responsibility for own professional development

• To be at least 18 years old as of 1st September 2025

• Be a UK/EEA citizen or have lived in the UK/EEA continuously for the last 3 years

• To be eligible to work in the UK and not in full-time education

• To have achieved, or predicted to achieve in 2025, a level 3 qualification in IT, such as A-levels or equivalent

• Maths and English GCSE (or equivalent) grades A* to C (new grades 9 to 4)

• You must not hold an existing qualification at the same or higher level in a similar subject

• Previous work experience in the IT field is desirable

About the Apprenticeship:

As a Trainee Cyber Security Analyst, you will develop the technical knowledge plus the professional skills and behaviours to work within the SecOps team, gaining valuable work experience plus achieving a qualification through a structured apprenticeship programme to kick-start your career.

Within your development program, you will learn and grow technical knowledge such as:

• Implementing security policies, controls, and frameworks

• Managing security infrastructure, including software updates, patching, firewalls, and access controls

• Conducting vulnerability assessments and providing actionable recommendations

• Monitoring and reporting security incidents while following forensic practices to preserve evidence

• Designing disaster recovery plans to support business continuity and data integrity

By the end of the apprenticeship, you will achieve your Level 3 Cyber Security Technician apprenticeship. Typically, the apprenticeship will take around 18 months to complete.
