To lead and manage engineering teams, providing technical guidance, mentorship, and support to ensure the delivery of high-quality software solutions, driving technical excellence, fostering a culture of innovation, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to align technical decisions with business objectives.
Accountabilities
- Lead engineering teams effectively, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture to achieve project goals and meet organizational objectives.
- Oversee timelines, team allocation, risk management and task prioritization to ensure the successful delivery of solutions within scope, time, and budget.
- Mentor and support team members' professional growth, conduct performance reviews, provide actionable feedback, and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Evaluation and enhancement of engineering processes, tools, and methodologies to increase efficiency, streamline workflows, and optimize team productivity.
- Collaboration with business partners, product managers, designers, and other stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical solutions and ensure a cohesive approach to product development.
- Enforcement of technology standards, facilitate peer reviews, and implement robust testing practices to ensure the delivery of high-quality solutions.

- Foster and guide compliance, ensure regulations are observed that relevant processes in place to facilitate adherence.
- Focus on the external environment, regulators, or advocacy groups to both monitor and influence on behalf of Barclays, when appropriate.

Person Specification / Essential Skills
- Demonstrable experience in leading large, complex engineering or security functions with full accountability for departmental strategy, budget/P&L, and operational excellence. This includes the ability to translate deep technical concepts into clear business outcomes, articulate value to executive stakeholders, and ensure the Network Security domain objectives are tightly aligned with overall business goals and risk appetite.
- Proven track record of defining, architecting, and implementing comprehensive network security strategies across a large, complex, and highly regulated enterprises. This includes mastery of modern network defence paradigms (e.g., Zero Trust, SASE, Cybersecurity Mesh, advanced threat detection), cloud network security (AWS, Azure, GCP), traditional network security controls, OT/ICS security considerations, and managing associated risks at scale
- Significant experience in driving complex, transformational network security initiatives from conception through to enterprise-wide adoption, including securing C-level/Board-level buy-in and investment. This requires outstanding communication, negotiation, and influencing skills to navigate a complex stakeholder landscape (including business leaders, technology peers, risk, compliance, and audit functions) and foster a culture of security-by-design.
Desirable Skills
- Experience operating at a senior level within the financial services industry, with a strong understanding of the specific regulatory and compliance landscape (e.g., requirements from the PRA, FCA, global standards like PCI DSS, and data protection laws) impacting network security decisions and operations within a major bank.
- Demonstrated thought leadership and practical implementation experience with cutting-edge network security technologies and approaches beyond current mainstream adoption.
- Strong experience in leading and optimizing large-scale engineering or security functions operating under Agile methodologies (e.g., Tribes, Squads, Chapters). This includes fostering a high-performance, psychologically safe culture, empowering teams, driving continuous improvement, and ensuring efficient, secure delivery of network security services and platforms in a fast-paced environment.
