Overview:

We are seeking a visionary and technically hands-on Senior Director of Data Protection & Privacy Engineering to lead the design, development, and implementation of scalable privacy-by-design and data protection solutions across our systems and platforms. This leader will own the strategy and execution of building technical controls and automation that enforce global privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA/CPRA) and internal data governance policies.

You’ll work cross-functionally with product, security, legal, and compliance teams to embed privacy deeply into our technology stack—balancing innovation with data responsibility.

What You’ll be Doing/Scope:

Privacy Engineering Strategy & Leadership

  • Lead and grow a team of privacy and data protection engineers focused on building scalable, privacy-centric infrastructure.
  • Define and execute the technical vision and roadmap for privacy engineering across the organization.
  • Partner with Legal, Product, Security, and Data teams to align technical initiatives with privacy requirements and business goals.

Technical Execution & Architecture

  • Architect and implement data protection controls, including:

Data minimization, anonymization/pseudonymization, consent enforcement, access controls, and encryption.

  • Build systems for privacy incident detection, consent auditing, data subject rights automation (DSARs), and data retention management.
  • Drive adoption of privacy-by-design principles in product and infrastructure development lifecycles.

Governance, Risk & Compliance

  • Translate regulatory requirements (GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA, etc.) into scalable engineering solutions.
  • Lead technical privacy reviews, risk assessments, and design mitigation strategies.
  • Maintain detailed documentation and collaborate with audit and compliance functions.

Tooling & Automation

  • Evaluate and integrate third-party privacy tools (e.g., OneTrust, BigID) with internal systems.
  • Develop internal tooling for privacy monitoring, logging, and real-time policy enforcement.

What We Are Looking For:

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in software engineering or infrastructure roles, with at least 5 years in a leadership role focused on privacy, security, or compliance.
  • Deep technical understanding of modern architectures; cloud platforms (AWS/GCP/Azure), microservices, data lakes, APIs, and event-driven systems.
  • Proven success implementing privacy-enhancing technologies and controls at scale.
  • Experience leading engineering teams through growth, ambiguity, and regulatory evolution.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with privacy frameworks and regulations (GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, HIPAA, LGPD).
  • Experience with data governance, lineage, classification, and loss prevention technologies.
  • Relevant certifications such as CIPT, CISSP, CIPP/US, or CIPP/E.
  • Experience working in high-scale, data-rich environments (e.g., cloud-native platforms, SaaS, consumer tech, finance, or healthcare).
