Role Description

As a senior leader in Canada Life’s Internal Audit Team, you are committed to providing technical insights and assurance to advance the organization’s ambitious technology roadmap. You understand governance, risk and controls and what it means within a complex financial services organization.
Reporting to the Vice-President, Technology Audit, you are instrumental in building key security audit practices and capabilities in areas such as cyber and information security risk management and controls across all of Canada Life’s systems, applications, and technologies. You communicate with clarity and confidence the status of audit opinions, thereby helping stakeholders to make informed decisions on strategic priorities and areas of risk.
A day in the life of this role:
- Provide people leadership through managing, coaching and mentoring audit colleagues as they deliver the technology audit plan on time with high quality.
- Accountable for stakeholder relationships both during individual audit engagements and on a day-to-day basis to influence and contribute towards Canada Life’s technology and business initiatives.
- Proactively assess and communicate current state of risks and controls in technical areas such as zero trust (IAM), cloud risk, data security, software security, vulnerability management, supply chain security, cyber risk, analytics, breach handling and investigations, and security testing.
- Lead segment Chief Internal Auditor interlocks (inclusive of ICOFR/financial controls) and co-own segment stakeholder relationships (both in Internal Audit and Senior Management)
- Develop Canada Life quarterly opinions in partnership with the VP Technology Audit, and keep key stakeholders informed of changes or impacts.
- Oversee and maintain the relevant Canadian risk assessment process and support the audit plan ensuring effective coverage across key risks in both technology and the business
- Identify gaps, challenges and/ or deficiencies in current state and engage stakeholders to refine current processes, develop new methodologies, and implement more secure practices organization wide while maintaining independence.
- Serves as subject matter expect for global IA and stakeholders related to cyber security matters.
- Leverage cyber and threat intelligence, monitor and interact with external environment to stay ahead of new threats and challenges and incorporate into continuous risk assessment and drive audit coverage and approach/ programs.
Qualifications and competencies you will bring to this role:
- Experience leading a team, including coaching / developing staff and reviewing the quality of work produced by team members
- Strong interpersonal, communication and team skills; ability to work and communicate effectively with all levels of management and staff
- Demonstrated experience implementing and driving change in complex organizational structures
- Proven ability to analyze, articulate and communicate complex topics effectively, to make informed decisions about appropriate corrective actions and convince others to act
- Strong strategic awareness
- Ability to display pragmatism whilst communicating persuasively at all levels with clarity and precision, both written and verbally
- You have 12-15 years in a similar role, ideally in financial services
- Business degree, preferable in engineering or computer science, or a combination of education and experience
- PMP (Project Management Professional) certificate are preferred, and certified in one of the following: CISSP-ISSAP, CISA, SANS

The base salary for this position is between $123,300 - $226,200 annually. This represents base salary only and does not represent other variable compensation components of our total compensation ( i.e. annual bonus, commission etc).
