As Director of Technology - Product Security (Application Security), you will shape the future of application security at one of the world’s largest retail platforms, protecting billions of customer interactions annually. This includes leading up to four teams plus several individual contributors to achieve the Product Security mission: “enable the secure development of software at scale” and “build a culture of security across Target Tech.” Capabilities in scope include static and dynamic scanning, open source security, penetration testing, bug bounty, security champions and several proprietary and patented capabilities to scale application security across Target’s technology team. This highly visible job requires influence, developer empathy, strong team leadership and a vision to take Product Security into the next generation.
Use your skills, experience, and talents to build and execute the future vision of Product Security while you:
- Manage a combination of in-house developed tools and vendor solutions to discover and remediate security flaws and vulnerabilities in over 8,000 applications.
- Collaborate with development teams to ensure a culture of security across Target Tech.
- Think creatively to address the cycle of vulnerability discovery and remediation at scale while translating the impact of vulnerabilities into business risk language.
- Continuously evaluate new threats, attack vectors, and emerging technologies (including AI) to inform the roadmap for Product Security.
- Oversee a bug bounty program where security researchers responsibly disclose vulnerabilities.
- Drive further adoption of threat modeling across Target tech.
- Ensure operational maturity, system stability and observability.
- Balance cost and functionality as part of your future vision.
About you:
- 4-year degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience in software development.
- 4+ years of managing teams with a strong track record of successful project delivery and customer adoption.
- 1-3 years’ experience in application security or a relentless passion to build a world-class application security ecosystem for 5,000 developers.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex technical information to a variety of audiences.
- Successful history of working in large enterprise technology ecosystems leading complex technology teams.
- Deep understanding of agile development processes and methodology including continuous integration and delivery, with a mindset of building incrementally and delivering business value quickly.
- Use data and metrics to make decisions, reduce risk and drive adoption of key capabilities.
- Strong collaboration skills, effective management of complex cross-team initiatives and leads with the desire to enable our engineering teams.
This position will operate as a Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement based on Target’s needs. A Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement means the team member’s core role will need to be performed both onsite at the Target HQ MN location the role is assigned to and virtually, depending upon what your role, team and tasks require for that day.
