Job Summary

We are seeking a talented and visionary Senior Principal Engineer to lead the technical strategy and implementation of cryptographic solutions focusing on post-quantum cryptography within Comcast. This role will be pivotal in ensuring that Comcast systems are equipped to handle future cryptographic challenges posed by quantum computing advancements. The candidate will research, design, and evaluate the next generation of cryptographic solutions that support a transition to quantum resistant cryptography while enabling cryptographic agility. They will also work on strategic and tactical playbooks, the former to create an overall strategy around PQC transition and the latter to support the integration of the solutions by distinct engineering and product teams. The ideal candidate will be an expert in cryptography and possess extensive experience in developing and deploying scalable and secure architectures. This role requires a balanced approach of technical leadership, innovative problem-solving, and stakeholder engagement across various levels within Comcast and the broader industry.

Job Description

Core Responsibilities

Technical Leadership: 

  • Serve as the technical leader for Comcast’s Post-Quantum Cryptography Center of Excellence (COE), responsible for developing a strategic roadmap for PQC transition in collaboration with appropriate stakeholders. 
  • Serve as the subject matter expert on post-quantum cryptography and provide guidance and expertise to engineering teams across the company. 
  • Design, architect, and evaluate next gen cryptographic solutions, with a focus on supporting crypto agility. 
  • Ensure cryptographic designs meet all regulatory, compliance, and internal standards. 
  • Strategic engagement with vendors to identify new commercially viable solutions that enable a transition to PQC, while allowing for cryptographic agility.  

Collaboration and Communication: 

  • Communicate complex cryptographic concepts and strategies clearly to stakeholders at all levels, including senior leadership and non-technical audiences. 
  • Build strong cross-functional relationships to ensure cohesive and effective collaboration. 
  • Collaborate with and support engineering, product, and other cross-functional teams to integrate cryptographic solutions across various platforms. 
  • Engage with external partners and standards organizations to influence and align with industry trends and standards. 
  • Facilitate workshops, training sessions, and seminars to educate internal teams on cryptographic risks and solutions. 

Research and Innovation: 

  • Stay abreast of the latest advancements in cryptographic technology and quantum computing and incorporate them into the organization’s roadmap as appropriate. 
  • Lead research and development initiatives to explore and implement latest cryptographic algorithms and protocols. 
  • Work with IETF and other standards organizations to contribute to the development and refinement of post-quantum cryptography specifications. 
  • Develop and implement strategies to enhance the organization's cryptographic capabilities and agility. 

Qualifications: 

Experience: 

  • Bachelors in Cybersecurity, Privacy, Computer Science, or a related field. MS or PhD is a plus.  
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience after Bachelors, 7 years after Masters, or 4 years after PhD  in cryptography as well as secure design and implementation, with at least 2 years focused on quantum-resistant solutions. 

Technical Skills: 

  • Deep understanding of cryptographic principles, protocols, and algorithms, including post-quantum cryptography. 
  • Experience with existing implementations of these algorithms and knowledge of available open-source implementations. 
  • Extensive experience in cryptographic solutions and technologies, with a proven track record of leading technical teams and large-scale projects. 
  • Experience in engaging with vendors and external partners to drive the adoption of new technologies. 
  • Experience in embedded systems design and optimization for cryptographic purposes. 
  • Working knowledge of programming languages such as Python, C++, or Java for cryptographic development. 
  • Experience in cloud-based architectures and distributed systems.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Familiarity and hands-on experience with NIST-released post-quantum cryptographic algorithms such as Kyber, Dilithium, Falcon, and others. 
  • Familiarity with protocols such as DNSSEC, PKI, QUIC, RPKI, and other cryptographic protocols relevant to telecommunications. 
  • Proficiency in designing and architecting advanced cryptographic solutions.

  • Building Proofs of Concepts (PoCs), filing patents, and writing papers. 
  • Representing Comcast at external conferences and events to demonstrate community impact and thought leadership
