This is a high-impact leadership opportunity to shape and manage Moderna’s global network engineering function during a time of growth and transformation. The Associate Director, Network Engineering will lead a team of experienced network and network security engineers to ensure the design, delivery, security, and operational excellence of our global enterprise network. You will drive the evolution of a hybrid infrastructure spanning corporate, manufacturing, R&D, and cloud environments. This role demands strong technical acumen, people leadership, cross-functional collaboration, and a passion for innovation and resiliency.
Here’s What You’ll Do:
Leadership & Strategy
Lead a high-performing global team of senior network and network security engineers.
Define and drive the strategic roadmap for network architecture and security aligned with business priorities and compliance needs.
Partner with infrastructure, cybersecurity, and application teams to ensure secure and scalable connectivity across all environments.
Network Architecture & Engineering Oversight
Oversee the design and implementation of resilient and scalable LAN, WAN, Wireless, VPN, SD-WAN, and NAC solutions across global sites.
Champion modern network technologies, automation, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices.
Ensure consistency in network configuration standards and security postures across regions.
Security & Compliance
Provide architectural guidance and oversight for secure network design, including firewalls, IPS/IDS, DDI, and NAC solutions.
Ensure policies and controls are in place to support compliance with GxP, NIST, ISO 27001, and other standards.
Collaborate with the cybersecurity team on incident response and risk mitigation strategies.
Operations & Global Support
Establish robust monitoring, alerting, and lifecycle management processes for all network infrastructure.
Oversee Tier 3 support and global on-call rotations for critical incidents and escalations.
Drive root cause analysis (RCA) processes and ensure lessons learned are applied across the team.
Team Development & Vendor Management
Mentor and coach engineers to grow technical and leadership capabilities.
Set clear goals and performance expectations, while fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
Build strong vendor and MSP partnerships, ensuring value delivery, contract alignment, and escalation management.
Here’s What You’ll Need (Basic Qualifications):
10+ years of experience in enterprise network engineering, with 3+ years in a leadership or team lead role.
Deep understanding of network architecture (LAN/WAN/WiFi), SD-WAN, firewalls, VPN, NAC, and DDI systems.
Expertise with Cisco (Catalyst, Nexus, SD-WAN, ISE), Palo Alto, Infoblox, and cloud networking.
Experience managing secure infrastructure in regulated environments (e.g., biotech, pharma, healthcare).
Proven ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and develop technical talent.
Here’s What You’ll Bring to the Table (Preferred Qualifications):
Strong experience in GxP-compliant environments, or willingness to quickly learn.
Hands-on experience with network automation (Python, Ansible, Terraform) and Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
Strong communication skills, including experience presenting to executives and collaborating with diverse technical teams.
Certifications such as CCNP, CCIE, PCNSE, CISSP, or equivalent are a plus.
A proactive, customer-first mindset and enthusiasm for solving complex infrastructure challenges.
