Head of Security Engineering and Architecture

The Bank for International Settlements (BIS) is seeking a dynamic Line Manager – Head of Security Engineering and Architecture to lead and inspire our Security Engineering and Architecture team.

This role is based in Basel, Switzerland; however, thanks to our status as an international organization, we can hire globally and welcome applications from candidates of all nationalities and located anywhere in the world. Relocation support is available for the successful candidate and their dependent family members.

Purpose of the role:

The Bank for International Settlements’ mission is to support central banks' pursuit of monetary and financial stability through international partnership and to act as a bank for central banks.

This leadership role is pivotal to our organization, where you will significantly contribute to our mission by directing a team of senior engineers and architects to ensure secure-by-design principles across an innovative technology environment. You will oversee operational excellence, shape the Bank's enterprise security architecture strategy, and act as a key representative for your team within IT leadership and across the broader organization.

Principal accountabilities:

Provide leadership, set strategy, and lead a team performing the following activities:

·       Management Responsibilities: Develop a team of security professionals in line with the Bank’s HR practices. This includes conducting performance reviews, motivating staff, assigning work, coordinating skill development, promoting diversity and inclusion within the team, and performing HR administration. You will also supervise the operational budget for cyber-related spending within Corporate Security.

·       Technology Strategy: Support the selection of technology and influence Bank-wide strategy to ensure security measures can be adequately implemented and operated.

·       Operational Management: Lead a team responsible for the operations and maintenance of key security technologies. Ensure sufficient skills and resourcing are in place to provide out-of-hours support. Prioritize team activities to ensure service delivery and operational excellence.

Qualifications, skills, and experience:

·       Proven ability to lead and empower a team of technology specialists, with a passion for developing people and setting strategic direction.

·       Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to engage in constructive dialogue and influence diverse customers and partners.

·       Critical thinking and problem-solving skills to excel in a dynamic, innovative environment.

·       Experience in developing and implementing security strategies and overseeing enterprise security services.

·       Good communication and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate complex security concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.

·       Ability to work independently, prioritize effectively, and make informed decisions.
