The Opportunity

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Cloud Security Lead to support the secure delivery and operation of cloud-based services across the Agency. This role is responsible for the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of cloud security control, with a strong emphasis on Microsoft Azure and AWS environments.

Reporting to the Security Operations Manager, Technology Security, the successful candidate will work closely with security, architecture and infrastructure teams to ensure that the cloud security practices are aligned with the Agency’s broader technology strategy and operational requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• System Management & Oversight: Administer and optimise Microsoft Entra ID, Microsoft Purview, and Microsoft Sentinel to support secure identity management, risk mitigation, and centralised monitoring.  

• Security Posture Enhancement: Collaborate with Cloud Operations to identify and implement improvements to cloud security standards and configurations.

• Technical Consultation: Provide expert advice to project teams and technology stakeholders to ensure alignment with security principles and compliance obligations.

• Documentation and Support: Contribute to the development and maintenance of technical documentation, including system diagrams and standard operating procedures.

• Research and Continuous Improvement: Monitor developments in Microsoft security technologies and contribute to the evaluation and implementation of enhancements to existing security tools and processes.

About You

You possess an industry certification in an information security discipline and/or cloud specialism. You have demonstrated experience across Microsoft Entra ID, Defender XDR, Purview, and Sentinel environments, bringing a deep understanding of cloud security principles and practices to the role. Your expertise includes working with SaaS, PaaS, and IaaS service models, and you are adept at implementing security automation, managing identities, and deploying threat detection solutions. You are skilled in using log analytics to support monitoring, alerting, and archiving across the Microsoft stack.

Experience in the Federal Government context, along with a sound understanding of the Australian Signals Directorate’s Information Security Manual or the Essential Eight, is highly desirable. Familiarity with cloud security posture management tools such as Microsoft Defender for Cloud or Qualys CSPM, and a background in security architecture, will also be well regarded.
