What you’ll do

Canadian Tire is looking for an Associate Vice President, IT Governance; who will play a critical role in developing, implementing and managing the IT Governance framework across the organization.  The position requires strategic thinking and strong leadership abilities along with deep knowledge of IT governance practices. 

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive IT governance framework aligned with industry best practices and organizational goals.  Ensuring the framework supports effective decision making, risk management and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Create, review and update IT policies.  Ensuring policies are communicated effectively and adhered to across the organization.
  • Identify and assess IT related risks which will be captured and tracked in an IT Risk Register.  As well as ensuring appropriate risk mitigation strategies are in place.
  • Coordinate internal and external IT audits.  Ensure best practice management of audit responses and remediation.
  • Ensure the effectiveness and currency of our IT General Controls to meet the needs of the organization.
  • Provide visibility to the executive team on the health of the processes and controls. 
  • Establish metrics to monitor the effectiveness of the IT governance initiatives.
  • Lead and mentor a team of IT governance professionals.  Fostering a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration and professional development within the team.

What you bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business Administration or a related field.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in IT governance, risk management, compliance, or a related area.
  • Proven experience in developing and implementing IT governance frameworks.
  • Strong understanding of regulatory requirements (eg. SOX) and industry standards (eg. COBIT).
  • Relevant certifications such as CISA, CISM, CRISC or CGEIT are highly desirable.
  • Ability to exercise effective independent judgment to deliver business results in a fast-moving, high-pressure environment with competing priorities.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and influencing skills to build credibility and collaboration, including developing effective cross-organizational and vendor relationships.
  • Ability to inspire, remove roadblocks, and coach technical teams to reach their full potential.
  • Creative and courageous, with the ability to manage in an environment of change and ambiguity to help us take bold, strategic moves in this rapidly evolving retail environment
  • Outcome focused, critical thinker with the ability to analyze and visualize target state, to ensure continuous improvement across our entire business.
  • Collaborative team player with superior influencing skills, who easily build business relationships across various stakeholder groups to move initiatives forward.
  • Inclusive and motivational leader who build and develop teams that effectively anticipate and respond to disruption, while consistently delivering strong performance.
