About the role
Riot Platforms is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Cybersecurity Engineer to join our growing Information Security team. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining security infrastructure, ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of our systems and data. This position plays a critical role in advancing Riot's cybersecurity strategy across corporate and operational environments, including our Bitcoin mining and data center operations. You will collaborate closely with IT, DevOps, and Engineering teams to proactively defend against cyber threats and ensure compliance with security best practices and regulatory requirements.
Essential Functions
- Design and implement security architectures for cloud and on-prem environments.
- Lead threat detection and response initiatives, including incident response planning and execution.
- Perform regular security assessments, vulnerability scans, and penetration tests; develop remediation plans and track resolution.
- Manage security tools and technologies such as firewalls, SIEM, EDR/XDR, IAM, and DLP solutions.
- Monitor system logs and alerts for anomalies and indicators of compromise.
- Ensure compliance with applicable cybersecurity frameworks and standards (e.g., NIST, CIS, ISO 27001).
- Develop and maintain security policies, procedures, and standards.
- Guide and mentor junior cybersecurity staff and contribute to the continuous improvement of the team’s capabilities.
- Partner with internal stakeholders to implement secure development lifecycle practices and cloud security controls.
- Evaluate and recommend new security technologies, tools, and processes to support Riot’s evolving security needs.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong knowledge of security engineering concepts including network security, application security, endpoint protection, and threat intelligence.
- Deep understanding of cloud platforms such as AWS and Azure, with hands-on experience in securing cloud-native architectures.
- Proficiency with scripting or automation tools (e.g., Python, PowerShell, Terraform) to enhance security operations.
- Experience with SIEM platforms (e.g., Splunk, Sentinel), EDR solutions (e.g., CrowdStrike, SentinelOne), and other security tools.
- In-depth knowledge of common cyberattack techniques and defense strategies.
- Ability to conduct forensic investigations and root cause analysis of security incidents.
- Familiarity with regulatory and compliance standards relevant to the industry (e.g., SOX, GDPR).
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to remain calm and focused under pressure.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical issues to non-technical stakeholders.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field; advanced degree or relevant certifications (e.g., CISSP, CISM, GIAC, OSCP) strongly preferred.
- Minimum of 5–7 years of professional experience in cybersecurity, with at least 2 years in a senior or lead role.
- Demonstrated experience securing enterprise environments and responding to sophisticated cyber threats.
