We're seeking a future team member for the role of Senior Director, Nation State Cyber Risk Management to join our Technology Risk Management team. This executive role is responsible for identifying, assessing, and mitigating cyber risks posed by advanced persistent threats (APTs) and hostile nation states, ensuring these risks are integrated into the firm’s broader enterprise risk management (ERM) framework. The position reports to the Chief Technology Risk Officer and requires cross-functional collaboration with technology, legal, compliance, and business units.

This exciting role entails one thing: systematically assessing BNY’s technologies, controls, procedures, and structures for readiness to defeat threats from nation state cyber actors. Activities include, but would not be limited to:

  • Working closely with our lines of business to identify objectives and potential targets of nation state actors.
  • Assessing how and with what capabilities a nation state actor might deploy against BNY to achieve those objectives.
  • Rigorously assessing and coming to a risk determination on the ability of BNY to detect or prevent those capabilities.
  • Coming to an aggregated reasoned viewpoint on our overall preparedness for the threats to each of our lines of business.
  • Making a determination of potential courses of action to mitigate the threats, with an analysis of the pros and cons in terms of risk reduction.
  • Communicating those findings to BNY Executive Management and assisting in the risk decisioning process.
  • Providing oversight, review and challenge of remediation efforts.

To be successful in this role, we're seeking the following:

  • At least 10 years of offensive cyber expertise at the National Security Agency (ideally in the TAO / CNO mission area) or the Central Intelligence Agency (ideally in the DDI / COG mission area).
  • Alternatively, experience with the British Secret Intelligence Service, the UK Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ), or equivalent services from the Five Eyes community of nations in the cyber mission will also be considered.
  • Deep expertise in nation state and APT threat landscape, including intelligence analysis and incident response.
  • Relentless, energetic curiosity and a passion for attacking and solving complex technical problems.
  • Ability to clearly articulate nature and solution to technical problems to non-technical senior leadership.
  • Financial services experience is welcome, but not critical.
  • Candidates with active security clearances at the TS or TS/SCI level are welcome, but an active clearance is not required.
